Discombobulation and Beyond

One day she left her house, feeling out of sorts as if some premonition spoke to her. It said to just stay home; to not go out. No logic in this, though, could she infer. She ran her errands, then bought groceries. To her car she went, exiting the store. Discombobulation hit! Something wasn’t right. That feeling now she just could not ignore. A handsome man approached her as she neared her car. It seemed as if that guy came out of nowhere. She saw his knife, then felt its menace at her back. She looked around; the parking lot was bare. Discomfort and confusion turned into grave fear. Like acid in her throat, great dread was rising. Bound and gagged, how she wished she’d listened to her instinct! Sadly, her fate was not surprising.

Andrea, Very expressive and emotive story told in poetic form. Things like this happen so much these days, but there are more and more people on this earth each year so more people to do horrible things. Your work reads like a good contender to me for the contest. Way to go. Thank you for sharing it with us and for dropping by my page to let me know I placed in your contest and with such a nice review of my work. Sara K

I've experienced that discomfort and confusion, that discombobulation to which you refer. It's tough when one's instincts tell him/her that something's not right. Menacing story

OK so this is a bit of a dark story. These things do happen and the world is sometimes impossible on us. The moral of the story perhaps....listen to our inner voice or if we are of that ilk...voices. Where are the cops or good samaritans when we need them?

Gosh, that gave shivers! Such a profound and soul-stirring write you've presented, dear Andrea.. Your storytelling skills are absolutely breathtaking here and I can truly resonate with those feelings when our intuition tries to warn her again and again, while we float in a haze of confusion and agony. This compels us to believe in our inner conscience, it can see beyond.. Wonderfully crafted piece. Sending you many best wishes and light!

Dear andrea, whoa what a powerful story and you did it so well, i know that feeling so well when you keep getting this feeling that something is going to go wrong and then it does. What stood out for me the most was how you described this man as handsome , looks can be deceiving and followed after! Clever. And those last lines, yes always listen to our instincts we must. Pleasure reading your poem, best wishes for the contest

Ooh, a bit of a shiver here! I'm a handsome man (and have been in my twenties for several decades) - but don't carry a knife. Thanks for interesting piece of verse, Andrea.

haha. I am sure you heard of the charming Ted Bundy. Most serial killers, however, tend to be unattractrive or creepy.
