The Unrequited Mantra

Do you still love me? You asked as we spooned in the night. I will always love you, I replied. Again you asked, Do you still love me? And again my reply, I will always love you, ...comforted by the feelings aroused by the chant. More than a cry for love; more than a promise An incanted mantra, an affirmation, a prayer A reassuring echo to your heart’s ping A shared moment of truth… …or only a truth in the moment, a moment passed. We don’t hold each other in the night any more, for that was a decade ago…in this life. And yet, here in my heart the echo continues, ...still answering the now silent ping. In moment after moment of an eternal unshared truth, I will always love you.

this was so..... intrestingly truthful for love that pass the test of time. as for the cure i suppose the art of forgiveness and submissiveness will have to be employed. i like the subjectes you use, John H. Loving III

Thank you for your comment, Robert. I love this poem, my first born. It's been almost therapeutic for me to give voice to these feelings, especially here. As I read through others' poems, including your own precious renderings, I've come to appreciate what an extraordinary venue this is...and an amazing community of souls who witness and encourage one another.

Hi Linda, beautiful poem here! Kudos on the success of putting thoughts and feelings to words. yup ,mind heart and memory coming together to as you say "give birth to this poem." That feeling of nakedness is there sometimes depending how deep down you reahed for the poem. At least that's my experience.enjoyed. -Robert

I appreciate your comment, Carol. This being my first posting, it's been an interesting process. A part of me was the observer as the poem gestated then emerged; another part of me actually wrote the thing...birthed it, if you will. If not purely left brain and right brain, there is definitely dual parentage going on there. And as in giving birth to a child, there is the feeling of nakedness, of being so intimately exposed. Does everyone have that experience when writing poetry?
