Andrea Dietrich grew up in Iowa and now resides in Utah with a spouse and two cats. She has two grown children and six grandchildren. Having graduated BYU with a Spanish major/ESL minor, she has spent most of her adult life teaching. It wasn't until 2000 that she began writing in earnest and discovering her "niche" as a writer of lyrical poetry. The internet opened up a new world for her, and she has spent two decades now participating in poetry clubs, acting as a judge of poetry contests for various magazines, for the website Shadow Poetry, and for Poetry Soup.

Ms. Dietrich has won numerous awards, as well as the title Poet of the Year 2008, from the Yahoo group, Poetry For Thought. In addition, she has won prizes from the magazines Lucidity, Bell's Letters, Art with Words, Poets at Work and SP Quill, the magazine for which she wrote grammar and poetry articles as well as movie reviews and for which she acted as poetry editor for the head editor Marie Summers for six years. Many of her poems appeared in Shadows Ink, a yearly published series of chapbooks of award winning poetry as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her short stories appeared in many issues of SP Quill and much of her poetry was published in eight chapbooks (no longer sold online).

Since coming to Poetry Soup, Ms. Dietrich has been both contest sponsor and winner of numerous contests. In 2010, her poem "Cinder Girl" was first place winner of Soup's International contest (these contests are no longer held). Z-Film Fest Project, 2014) and the full length movie "Six Days of Sistine" in which 20 poems of Ms. Dietrichs serve as the thoughts of two characters played by Jamie Campbell Bower and Elarica Johnson (directed by Richard J. NEW INFO: CONNIE IS HOME AND DOING FINE AND SHE THANKS YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS!! THANKS EVERYONE WHO CAME LAST WEEK TO THIS BLOG. CONNIE AND I APPRECIATE IT.

I just got home from seeing a movie and went to emails, and Molly, a friend of Connie's (not here at Soup) had sent me a letter informing me of something that must have happened very suddenly. I was communicating with Connie just yesterday and so it had to have happened since then.

Molly informed me that Connie is in the hospital today, this Friday, to have a pacemaker put inside her. I was told "Connie would appreciate prayers." Connie is a big believer in the power of prayers, so I thought I would come here and do this blog for her. I really have no details about what happened to Connie. She wants everyone to know she is fine but just would appreciate the prayers. So I hope her friends will see this and send up those prayers!! That's it!

Thank you very much Michael. We are both doing much better. Going to the hospital can be very risky these days so we were both apprehensive. The hospital staff couldn’t have been nicer or more thoughtful. My oldest daughter is a nurse and I appreciate all they do for patients. It is good to be safe at home again. Blessings xxoo

Hello Jan, I am sorry to hear this news of Connie. My belated husband had a heart pacer put in . Before I met him. he did very well. with it. i called him my energizer bunny. He had other health problems in health He passed away 5 years ago. Yes i will pray for Connie. Hugs.

She has been through a tremendous amount of stress over the last two years, as many of us know, with the death of her husband, her son and near death of her step son. Thoughts of love and concern for dear Connie. This has not been a good year for her, but she has bravely hung in there. As one who has a pacemaker/defib implanted, I can tell you all they are a very beneficial device, but they are indicative of a weakened heart. I am not at all surprised considering the stress Connie has been living with.

You are so right Milton. My pacemaker has given me new energy and I feel it will make a huge difference in my life. No doubt the stress did have an effect on my health but I am confident things will be getting better. I couldn’t believe my daughter and I were in the hospital at the same time. She is recovering very nicely too and we both feel very blessed to have prayers from everyone that I know helped us return home safe from the hospital. I am very thankful to Andrea for asking for prayers. This was a surprise for me as I was not in pain but just kept feeling faint all day and it kept getting worse. When I went into the hospital I found out I would need a pacemaker. My daughter and I were in the hospital at the same time.
