Some of you know that I am a huge movie buff. I see at least one new movie each week and have been doing this since I was very young. Despite the hoopla about the Oscars this year, I still want to dish about the nominees and get YOUR opinions on which movies and actors/actresses you would like to see take the gold!! If you have a favorite that was not nominated (for example, Will Smith, in Concusson), Let me know. That is a movie I never got to see yet, and it's one I hope to see eventually!
Each year I try to see all the nominees for Best Picture. I managed this year to do it, except I simply will not go see Mad Max. It's just not my bag! Here are the movies up for Best Picture. I am putting them in order of my personal preference:
1. Bridge of Spies (with 6 nominations)
-
The Big Short (with 5 nominations)
-
The Revenant (with 12 nominations)
-
The Martian (6 nominations)
-
Spotlight (6 nominations) ties for me with Brooklyn (I can't find its numer of nominations)
-
Room ( 4 nominations)
-
Mad Max: Fury Road (10 nominations, mostly for technical things)
I am pretty sure the winner of the Oscars is going to be the Revenant, which was indeed a beautifully filmed movie. However, for theme, acting and everything in general, I think the Bridge of Spies is my favorite on this list. I want to encourage everyone also to see my pick number two: The Big Short. It takes the banking fiasco of the last decade and shows us exactly how it was able to happen. Yes, we were all duped by the banks, and we are still being duped, but the entertainment industry was sure able to make a great satire of the whole horrible thing!
Movies which I also loved this year and would not have minded seeing on the list of nominees were these: 99 Homes (it regards the aftermath of what the Big Short depicts)/ Suffragate/ Ex-Machina/ The Walk (oh, the terror just watching a guy walk a tightrope from one Twin Tower to the other)/ Sicario/ Black Mass/ Joy/ The Visit (a guilty pleasure of mine which was a twisted fairy tale) and my BIG FAVORITE Trumbo!! (it stars Brandon Cranston as a writer who rebelled against the blacklisting of liberal Hollywood from the 40's and even into the 70's).
Which movies did YOU feel were overlooked by Oscars or Golden Globes this year? I think Trumbo got overlooked!!
And what do you think of these nominees for Best Actor and Best Actress?
For Actor:
Bryan Cranston in Trumbo (his first nomination) I love this guy's acting. Loved TRUMBO
Matt Damon in Martian (4th nomination; he already won for Good Will Hunting)
Leonardo DiCaprio in the Revenant (6th time nominated. I believe THIS is finally HIS year)
Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs (oh my, I detested this boring movie and walked out of the theater)
Eddie Redmayne in the Danish Girl (He won last year for The Theory of Everything. He gets my award for most interesting roles. He made an excellent transgender in Danish Girl)
For Actress:
Carol Blanchett in Carol (7th time nominated, won twice before) The movie Carol seems to have been slighted by Oscars. It had six nominations and not one of them for Best Picture!!
Brie Larson in Room (the little boy in the movie did an outstanding acting job as well)
Jennifer Lawrence in Joy (I recently saw this movie and really enjoyed it. This is her 3rd nomination and she already won for Silver Lining Playbook.)
Charlotte Rampling in 45 Years: (this is a movie I never got to see. Also an Oscar suprise for this older woman.)
Saoirse Roan in Brooklyn (her 2nd nomination. I really loved her in this little romance movie).
Do you have any other actors or actressess from last year that you feel were overlooked? Let me know. I love knowing what movies and actors you guys admire!
