The world as we know it will end!
This warning the Mayans did send
But yes there's still time
After reading this rhyme
To honor Black Friday and spend

Hello Duke, What a clever, playful wink at the 2012 “end of the world” hype and our all-too-human urge to keep shopping, no matter what. I love how you blend ancient Mayan myths-misunderstood as doomsday predictions-with the very modern ritual of Black Friday, that even as eras “end,” we find reasons to celebrate (and spend). So witty and timely to laugh at our own apocalyptic anxieties! Although I love a good doomsday read. Spring Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

Fran, thanks for the comment on this one. You are very kind. I am just a bit remorseful at the passage of time as it was written 11+ years ago. Seems like only yesterday.

I had never checked this feature out so thank-you for showing it to me. I did enjoy the comparison between a vacuum cleaner and a biker--that is one of my own favorites too. I have to check out yours now.

Well, it does seem that our current leaders are worried about our short term economic state, but they are not tuned in to the NATURE of our condition. We have to laugh. You are the best!!

You commented on my poem that we were one of the few with long happy marriage. I would not say exactly true. Mine is LONG not wonderfully happy, but I am a happy person, so I am able to make it work!! maybe you are one of the very few with long AND happy!!

cute,,,, though I never go out to black Fridays, if only for the atmosphere. I think doomsday is just a "large" shift in conciseness. I also think the big guys will be falling!

Black Friday is an allegory for business as usual. If the end should happen--it would be great to have maxed out credit cards just before. That is the ultimate justice!

good one Duke, so many doomsday predictions, throughout time, this poem as a wonderful injection of humour, and to laugh in life today is the greatest gift of all...

Very funny... before I spend, I'll have to borrow... hopefully, the bailed-out- banks will have something left over after covering all of their X-Mas bonuses ... Terry (by the way, yes Spanish women can be very passionate, and French women also, and Italian, and Swedish, and... well I'm running out of 'characters' ... but you probably get the point...)

Maybe the Myans were referring to the fiscal cliff!
