Zoom poetry convention

So with the pandemic ruining our social lives I was thinking of a meet and greet via zoom technology. Most if not all of us are familiar with this technology, it's like a skype call but with much more capacity, I think up to 300 can participate at one time. How nice to be able to put a face to the words we love to read. It would be a challange because of various time zones, but it can be worked out. I recently joined a zoom memorial for my father who passed away last month, we had vistors from Germany, Africa (Zambia), Argentina, and of course Canada where we live. So I'm putting out the idea if someone knows how to host a meeting on Zoom we could make it work. Europe I think is 6 hour time differnce, and west coast Can/Usa is 3 hours different, so maybe on a Saturday 2pm would work 2pm (est) 11am(pac/t) 8pm Europe time. It sure would be a fun time to be together to meet and share poetry maybe for an hour or so together. Let me know what you think either on this blog or by soupmail.

I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing and your loss John. Sending prayers. FYI - I set up zoom calls on a regular basis. It's not difficult. I host two ongoing reunion calls and have zoomed a virtual Christmas party along with teaching a workshop and leading a retreat. Whoever sets up the event will need the professional "zoom" app. It's not expensive -$15.00. Count me in! I like the once a month format!

Thanks Sam for your kind words. I'm glad you think it's a good idea. If you have some experience hosting would you consider doing a poetry meeting sometime in April. It would be good to know in person all these wonderful poets! Thanks again! John

Sounds interesting, John. But most likely there would have to be two different sessions for those who work at jobs and could not participate.

Thanks for your feedback Andrea that's why I suggested on the weekend. Obviously we wont be able to find a time that's good for everyone. Maybe have it regularly like once a month if there's enough interested. Talk later.

Sorry to hear of your Fathers passing, John, been 14yrs since my Dad died, feels like he's still guiding me tho the emptiness gets heavy at times....zoom sounds cool!

Hey James thanks for your kind words, he was suffering the last few years so it wasn't unexpected, but still difficult especially for my Mom. Let's see if the zoom meeting takes off, keep you updated!

John, sorry for your loss. I go on zoom get togethers all the time but never hosted one, but for sure you have to download the zoom app, then you can create a zoom meeting where you are the host and send people the time, the meeting ID and password to get in, and of course open it to people besides Canada to be able to take part, that's all I know about it but if you do manage it, I would be interested also _Constance

I watched some tutorials on line and seems easy enough Just have to email all participants the link and password once it is set up then agree on time Even if it’s just 30 joining, it will be a fun experience to try I used to join zoom tutorials for my son when he was home schooled But i never thought of the hosting part of it!
