I Don'T Like the Darkness

I don't like your darkness suggested bpm 72

Vs 1
I'm full of energy...
I got my swag on,
I'm using positivity...
before it's all gone

Vs 2
I see you in the corner...
curled up in a ball,
You can't stand for nothing,
if you're too afraid to fall

(but, I'm not like you)

Chorus
I don't like the darkness...
I turn on the lights,
when the sun goes down
You can't take the daylight...
you sit inside your room-
with the curtains drawn...

Bridge
How can you live your life?
never seeing your shadow
Take a deep breath,
don't stay in the shallows

Vs 3
You think there is no future,
think, all hope is lost
You don't have what it takes,
to pay what it costs

Vs 4
I don't like your thinking...
it don't fit with me,
I've been working hard,
trying to change destiny

(glad I'm not like you)

Chorus
I don't like the darkness...
I turn on the lights,
when the sun goes down.
You can't take the daylight...
you sit inside your room
with the curtains drawn...

Bridge
How can you live your life?
never seeing your shadow
Take a deep breath,
don't stay in the shallows

Vs 5
I live in the real world...
I make my own name,
While you're spending all your time,
playing little games

Vs 6
Listen to me friend...
it ain't no mystery
You've got to work hard,
to change your history

(glad I'm not like you)

Chorus
I don't like the darkness...
I turn on the lights,
when the sun goes down
You can't take the daylight...
you sit inside your room
with the curtains drawn...

Bridge
How can you live your life?
never seeing your shadow
Take a deep breath,
don't stay in the shallows

Chorus
I don't like the darkness...
I turn on the lights
when the sun goes down.
You can't take the daylight...
you sit inside your room
with the curtains drawn...

repeat bridge and chorus
and fade

Love the write John. I agree, no one should live their lives completely in the dark, buuuutttt, I do love Constances' poems (Broken Wings, Dear Heart), and many of mine wouldn't be same without a touch of midnight inside of me. I think you can't truly appreciate one without the other. I do like your lyrics.

Thanks James, it was a song directed at the youth who don't feel there's much purpose in life so they don't try to do anything with their life. I agree ...sometimes my favorite reads are quite dark, this was just a song!

These lyrics Schoolhouse Rock!!! Got a real cool urban swag vibe to it, John. Mad props to you, Mr. Magic Lyrical. LOVE this bridge piece: How can you live your life? never seeing your shadow ... Take a deep breath, don't stay in the shallows. Your fine tune advice is hip steady as they come, friend-o. Harmonious prose elevates the imagination to soar free. Ty for this melodious ink artistry. Supernova bright write! Love and best wishes for the holidays.

Oh my. I posted something about the darkness and you have too. I agree with you here. Darkness is not a place I wish to dwell. Many do and it is so sad. To feed off the negative and linger in it. I stay away from such. The best I can. Once again you have created a Masterpiece. Your thoughts always move me in some way. ~ Brandy

John, this is a powerful message. Some can get stuck and consumed with negativity. When there are many troubles, it can certainly take work to be positive and find the things that lift us to the light. This is a great song of hope to show it can be done :)

Thanks Heidi, it's so true, it's hard for kids today to have any hope, but they can't let fear of failure stop them from trying! That was what I tried to communicate, your comment confirms the message came through, thanks so much!

I think this is fantastic John but I truly believe it wouldn't make any difference anymore if they heard it or not. Values today are not what they used to be. It seems we have a generation that can't face a future where you might have to work to get something. Though I am sure my parents felt the same way about my generation, so maybe there is hope.

Thanks Chris, you're right I think we we are the last generation that understands the value of hard work, funny I remind myself of what my father used to say, didn't want to be like him....lol!
