Too Good To Ever Last

Too good - to ever last suggested bpm 80

Vs1
When we first met, I never thought
that you could ever love me...
You were the brightest star shining
so high up above me...

Bridge
I loved the way you stared, with your sparkling eyes...
I loved the way you laughed, out loud until you cried...
I loved the way you moved, with such grace and finesse...
I loved the words you used, the way you'd catch your breath...

Chorus
Guess it was too good... to ever last
I knew the end was coming... but not so fast
I thought the good times... just might be enough...
I guess you got tired ...of my simple love

Vs2
I remember when you said our first kiss
gave you the shivers...
And every time that we made love,
I'd watch you gently quiver

Bridge
I loved the way you stared, with your sparkling eyes...
I loved the way you laughed, out loud until you cried...
I loved the way you moved, with such grace and finesse...
I loved the words you used, the way you'd catch your breath..

Chorus
Guess it was too good... to ever last
I knew the end was coming, but not so fast
I thought the good times, just might be enough...
I guess you got tired ...of my simple love

Postlude
Now in the heart of the night,
nightmares fade from view
Sometimes when I find peace of mind
I still... dream of you

When we first met,
I never thought that you ...
could ever love me...

John, I like this one as well. I tend to write mostly lost love, heartbreak, drinking songs myself. Just now starting to write some more upbeat ones.

This is very nice, John, and a melody came right away ... love the flow and phrasing and melancholy message, of course ... "Nothing At All" speaks to me louder, but I have atypical taste - both are quality writes, my friend. I'll be writing more lyrics soon as I switch back to music full-time. (I'm lucky to get one comment in 40-to-80 hits). Great stuff here, another fave!

Beautiful sadness, John! Your songwriting skills are God-given heaven sent! From one songwriter to another, you're so much braver than me (to freely post your soul treasured poetic artwork.) My lyric poems are what I creatively value the most in all my quill archives. LOVE this poem! Love and happy holidays.

Thanks Freddie I kept my lyrics to myself and then back in 2012 almost died from heart attack decided to post to the world so in case something happens at least I'll leave something behind. Thanks so much for your support!

The title called to me and I'm so glad it did! Poems like these are a fav for me though I try to steer clear of writing them! Seems when I was here before that's about all I wrote! Decided this time around I'd try my luck at love poetry! But I guess people get tired of reading them too...oh well! John this was another amazing poem! A fav!;)

My heart flutters, while listening to love songs. The tender melody of such emotions. You seem to move me with your words of love, that sweet ache, the sadness within. I am captivated!! Even though this song can bring a tear in my eyes. I want to stay in the melody. Feel these emotions wrapping around me. I wish to place this in my favorites. It belongs there. ~ Brandy

It's so sad when many loves turn to ash and those wonderful things disappear. Perfect song for that message, John. The postlude is superb!!

Thanks Andrea so true, sad that so many relate, but I guess it's good when you find a good heartbreak song, good to cry it out and then move on...glad you liked it and left a nice comment!

Hi John, this is such an excellent lyric. Now, this is the kind of song I would have loved to sing, in my younger days, the words have such strong meaning. This would be a song worth the singing John. I love the emotional content. This is most definitely a vocal Fav. Have a wonderful Saturday, when it comes. Your friend always....Mike.

Oh this one touches deep John. I think many of us can relate. Love often starts out so wonderful but most people can’t keep it alive so it dies... your muse has been on a roll lately. This is another amazing write :). Hugs

Thanks Sandy, you know how it goes some days the muse sings other days it's a dirge, but I like it when they come more frequently, although generally I average 8 or 9 songs a month. I'm glad you liked this one as well!

Oh, J.D. You sent my heart lurching into the past. "Now in the heart of the night, nightmares fade from view And sometimes when I find peace, I still... dream of you." This is my plight on many a night when thoughts come unbidden to my mind. Lyrics to fave and remember from your skilled hand.
