Happy Birthday, Phyllis Babcock, Carrie Richards & to the dearly departed Linda-Marie - Andrea Dietrich's Blog

(I"ve also added Carrie's name recently because I am being told it's Carrie's birthday around this time too. Does anyone know the exact date?)

Today I got a notification from Facebook that it was the birthday of not only our lovely Phyllis Babcock, but also the birthday of Linda-Marie Bariana. It made me take pause and remember the many times I visited her poetry and was able to interact with her here at Soup.  I still remember how fun-loving she was and since I adore May babies, I thought i would pay tribute to her in addition to saying HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Phyllis. It's so amazing to me when I see people sharing the same bitthday. Happy Birthday to YOU, Linda, in Heaven!

Here is my favorite poem of Linda's which was in my faves, and underneath it is one of my faves of Phyllis! I find Linda's poem prophetic since it was written only a few years before her passing and the one by Phyllis is fitting because Linda also loved butterflies!

The Butterfly

I pursued a butterfly through the woods.
It fluttered, just always beyond my reach.
The more I pursued, the more it teased.
Stalking it, like prey, it just fluttered away.
I found  a moss covered log to rest,
Sitting in a serene, secluded spot.
A butterfly came ,sat upon the log.
I caught it in the palm of my hands.
Its wings became a rapid flutter,
Trying to escape my grasp.
I opened my hands , freeing it.
If we pursued things in life,
They become unattainable.
If we sit quietly and reflect,
they become attainable.
Chasing our dreams may be
as allusive as the butterfly.
Finding them as beautiful as the butterfly.

Whimsical Butterfly Flirtation

With rainbow wings, you tarry among the stones
Your caress as light as dew drops in the sun
Searching for a rose to call your own...
A morning breeze hastes to join the fun
Tickling vines, and petals, where you've clung 

You find a place to rest awhile and preen
Then fly to me, assured and debonair 
You spread apart kaleidoscopic wings
While proudly knowing roses won't compare
Nor can the scarlet ribbon in my hair

Dear butterfly, while neighbors won't suspect
This love affair I have with you, 
My hair, in which you light, holds new barrette
You flatter me,... am I prize pursued?
You've fluttered down, to be my arm's tattoo
