tide

you came back like the tide that forgot it wasn’t supposed to. i had a whole life stacked up, like driftwood, like sandcastles, and you knocked it down without even touching it. you hold his hand like it’s borrowed. i kiss her like i’m apologizing. we pretend we’re strangers, but my chest still aches in the shape of your name. i don’t love you, i say it again. and again. but the tide keeps coming, and my feet never learned how to stay dry.
