Hi Soupers,
It has been awhile since I've posted a new poem or even have time visiting the Soup... My time has been pre-occupied with some personal events that I've placed aside the Soup....
June was a busy month to me because of the wedding James and I had. I was hands-on to all preparations until our big day.. To some Soup friends who have seen our photos, you know we (James and I) are so happy... we are at this present time still busy...
Today, Sunday 12:52pm I was about to post the winners of the last contest James and I sponsored but unfortunately I can't already. I honestly couldn't know what to do but nevertheless I wanted to post the BEST POEMS - the winners. I am so sorry that I couldn't highlight your name for you to be known..
Sweet Sunset Wedding (FIRST)
Form: Couplet
My Wedding Day Is Special Because...
Sponsor: Olive Eloisa Guillermo
Sacred vows we swore, consecrating two blessed souls in matrimony
The anticipation before I held daddy's hand walking down the aisle,
he gave me a kiss on the cheek and wore a proud smile.
Along the shores of a harmonious island is where we became one,
holiness combined with true dedication, oh my, we were so young.
The smell of his sweet cologne brought me back to the old days,
My tender scent I carried rested gently on my bouquet.
I still remember our vows like yesterday we were on that alter,
we promised to be loyal and forgiving if ever we should falter.
Death may separate our fleshly bodies while here on earth,
but the connected souls we share would prove our days of worth.
We swore that good health would never be taken for granted,
by some chance we get sick, our comfort would never be abandoned.
We don't care about material wealth, more money more problems,
If by some chance we grow poor, our humble nature won't be forgotten.
We took an oath before our family, more importantly the Lord,
and all our dreams of starting a family would be our greatest reward.
Even if the skies turned grey and if our lives should meet obstacles,
the truth of passion would create a future where anything is possible.
Separate entities brought together by the good Lord's plan,
off into the endearing sunset we walked away, hand in hand.

------I personally love this poem, I am side by side with the poet in each line. Sweet and lovely! the monoku is straightforward talking about what is celebrated in wedding. A very good introduction that is elaborated well throughout the poem.
Celebration of Love: Our Wedding contestn (FIRST TOO!)
Form: Rhyme
sunny skies of blue, two hearts to be joined as one, before God and man
A small bouquet of white roses, their heady fragrance reached my nose.
I was remembering the one he gave me on the night he knelt to propose.
Now here we are, months later, surrounded by all the people who care.
The only person that mattered to me was the man whose life I'd share.
I walked between a sea of many friendly faces, but I was hardly aware
of the 'oohs' and 'ahhs' I heard about later, for all I could do was stare
at my handsome groom, soon to be my beloved for the rest of my life.
You bowed as I drew near. What a lucky woman am I to be your wife.
We heard the words the minister was saying, but it was hard to listen.
We shared a smile with each other, while in our eyes tears did glisten.
When asked if you would take me, I felt you gently squeeze my hand
and in that moment no one else knew what only we could understand.
Our lives led us to each other, on the same path we began as friends,
and now exchange wedding bands in a marriage where love never ends.
A sweet kiss that lingered for a moment while your arms drew me near,
down the aisle we walked together while our friends and family cheer.
Plans for the wedding and our future was the day's perfect culmination
but only the beginning of our lives together. A love worthy of celebration.

Our Military Wedding (second)
Form: Blank verse
Our Military Wedding
married life ahead
future wonders and unknowns
to forever share
Four bridesmaids, lovely in their pastel gowns
of varied colors, maid of honor, too;
ring bearer, flower girl, each six years old;
best man, four ushers in our wedding group.
So special were Marines in their dress blues,
who stood and made a saber arch for us
as we came down the steps of our old church
where we were married by our parish priest.
Our wedding celebration was a feast
for family and many friends who came.
Good food and music made a happy time,
as we all danced and shared the wedding joy.
We cut our cake with a bright, shining sword,
and fed each other gently one small piece.
On tables were our favors, graceful swans,
filled up with candy coated almond treats.
That evening, we began our journey 'home',
nine-hundred miles away to the corps base,
to start a brand new life...husband and wife.
At only age eighteen, how brave I was
to leave my family and friends behind.
But love provides a courage unforeseen
with need to be beside the one you love...
June, nineteen fifty-eight...and still today.

Fairy tale wedding (third)
Form: Sonnet
When two hearts are inseparable, marriage is inevitable
Spring's daffodils bloomed in unification,
blossoming to show their appreciation,
for a fairy tale marriage celebration,
as two lover's declared their admiration.
Stunning hall with symphonic orchestration,
guests patiently wait for the culmination,
to witness a beautiful declaration,
nervously hoping there's no hesitation.
First sight of her, my words lost in translation,
her charm and grace made my heart feel elation.
Our eyes gazed seduced by infatuation,
our lips kissed in tender co-ordination.
A union bringing together two nations,
honouring a love blessed by god's creations.

WINTER WEDDING(3RD)
Form: Verse
"snowflakes were falling winter frosty wonderland and we said I do"
We fell in love and were to be married in February,
So we planned a winter theme wedding for that sweet day;
Oh, it was so beautiful with snow gently falling down on us,
Every time I see a delicate, snowflake I recall our wedding.
The ceremony was performed outside in nature,
Under a clear tent with amazing decorations placed;
We embraced the scenery and each other and said I do,
Bells rang out and we drank champagne to cheers.
The reception room was full of frosted branches,
And icy blue lighting created a dreamy, gorgeous quality;
We truly embraced the season with garlands of green,
Icicle like crystals, pinecones, and candles on the tables.
We looked into each others eyes, this love was ever,
No two, it seemed could love each other more:
And is anything more romantic than a blanket of snow,
Our wedding pictures a memory, oh my flowers were lovely.
My dress was so pretty, I will keep it forever,
At the reception we served frosty cocktails to suit the season;
And to eat we had all types of comfort food to try,
Music was a band and when we had our dance, I was a princess.
Our wedding night was spent in a winter chalet,
With a fireplace crackling we held each other with love;
The honeymoon, however, was a tropical escape in warmth,
We truly were a couple in love, and created memories forever. ___________________________________

Our Weddingn (4th)
Form: Light Poetry
A Bride’s beauty… Spring’s finest bloom unveiled in a sea of grass.
With a ring and faith in trust
Our vows will soon be on display
For those that are so dear to us
On this our blessed wedding day.
In a chapel, white and plain
An angel’s image stands in wait
To take a walk down Union Lane
Such loveliness, no words can paint.
Adorned upon a silk white pallet
Donned with splendor’s finest grace
Silver threads that hold in step
A dance of pearls and satin lace.
Down the gilded aisle she glides
Upon a path of petal spray
Spread by tiny cherub hands
To greet me on our wedding day.
A promise sealed with rings of gold
We turn to greet the world as one,
Forever us to have and hold
Our greatest journey’s just begun.

WE DID IT OUR WAY ON OUR WEDDING DAY (5th)
Form: Couplet
Marriage – our commitment for LIFE as husband and wife
We organised and paid for our own wedding day
This meant we had control and could do it ‘our' way
We got married two years to the day from our very first date
Both of us were bubbling with excitement, we just couldn’t wait
My hair was perfect, make up and manicure too
I wanted to look absolutely beautiful for you
Dress was pretty peach, it wasn’t a formal wedding dress
I’m not one for fussy frills and flounces I must confess
You wore a charcoal coloured suit and looked so very smart
Our vows commit us forever – I love you with all my heart
After our registry office ceremony we had a lovely meal
A carvery for close family and friends, the venue was ideal
We held a huge party for 300 guests later on that night
Our wedding day was perfect everything turned our right
The wedding night was spent at a beautiful local hotel
On learning it was our wedding day they really did excel
They upgraded us free of charge to their honeymoon suite
With champagne and chocolates and fresh fruit to eat

Gloriously Simple Wedding (6th)
Form: Rhyme
Two-thousand miles to my destiny
Leaving all I'd ever known, behind,
I traveled across the Nation.
Tears flowed as I waved to them
Still standing at the station.
He'd said he'd be the first in line
When I reached my destination..
If he wasn't there, what would I do?
My cash I'd have to ration.
The year was nineteen forty one.
No one had any money.
But I had the utmost faith in him,
The one who called me Honey.
The train pulled in, my love was there.
The cloudy skies turned sunny.
There was no doubt we'd soon be tied
With the bonds of matrimony.
I don't remember any flowers
And gay ribbons were not rife.
No family and friends were with me,
Our wedding cake was a Duncan Phife..
But my wedding was splendrous and special
Because it made me his wife;
Though only strangers were there to see
The start of our happy new life.

As for me, my wedding day has been special because...
--- I believe I married that man God has chosen for me - James Andrew Fraser.
--- It is a very intimate wedding where only my most closest family and friends, colleagues at work were present.
--- My best friends are there.
--- It was a sunny-breezy day, I was a lil worried for James because I know how much he is not use of the heat in the Philippines.
--- James is wearing the barong - Philippines' national costume for men.
--- I wore the first wedding dress, I wished and wanted.
--- I was able to surprise James with the voice message that was done by Charmaine and Jan as well as some videos from his family and friends.
--- I was able to wear for the first time in my life around 6 inches heels for I am so small.. :D hahaha James is 6 feet two, I am only 5 feet 1 inch.. hehehe
--- It rained two hours after the wedding and the celebration which I prayed and asked God.
--- I saw tears not only from James and I but also from our guests who was touched by our love story.
--- I married my poetry partner; my best friend; my confidante and just a wonderful person - James Andrew Fraser...
God bless us always...
