Free Spirit

She is a free spirit rebellious and wild She’s changing so quickly – no longer a child. Determined, impulsive, she gets into fights She wants independence and quotes me her rights. She is a free spirit now spreading her wings In search of adventure and trying new things. She sees the horizon that beckons from far; Relies on the guidance of her lucky star. But when the experience starts fading away She finds disillusion obstructing her way There’s home as an option to get her on track; I will be there waiting to welcome her back. --------------------------------------------------------- Written: 3/15/2014 Contest: Your Favourite Old Poem Sponsor: Shadow Hamilton Placed 3rd Author: Paul Callus Contest: Any Poem Goes#14 Sponsor: Poet Destroyer A Placed 5th [Published in Kavya Kishor, Bangladesh ~ 25 April 2023]

what a nice one about your daughter. I was lucky to have an angelic daughter. I named her Angela!! Maybe that is why. A belated congrats on this one winning.

To be honest, Andrea, this is about a friend's daughter, but I tackled it as if she were my own. Luckily my daughter has not caused me any such concern! One of my sisters is named Angela and we call her Lina. ~ Txs for stopping by. // paul

Hi Michael, there are no words to thank you; this is such encouraging and positive feedback. We all have our own ways of expressing ourselves; very often we downgrade our work and look with wonder at that of others. That's why I look at yours the way you look at mine:) cu my friend. // paul

Hi Tim thanks a lot. Nowadays children seem to have a will of their own, but good parenting does help a lot to save awkward situations which otherwise could turn sour. // paul

Lovely... well written and well wrought too. I wonder if the poem is not simply about father and daughter. It could be about be the poem itself, poems being like one's children. As the old saying goes in Arabic: The meaning is in the heart of the poet.
