Notes About The Poem

The Humble Cathedral

THE HUMBLE CATHEDRAL In the glaring eyes of the sun dressed thin in lush green moss, my shady sky-high trunk compeer dark brown wrinkled arms spreading free my slender fingers of verdant hue. They swing, swing in quiet seesaws attune to the cradling light of July breeze. Pleased and appeased, I puff and puff: oxygen dancing slow with other gas. The blowing winds from the east, The heaven tears cascading down, they bathe and cleansed me but! They too disturb causing murmurs and rustles during my deep sleep... Fall approaches, smell of despair hangs, it pose danger making my leaves sad. I began to weep as they slowly tumble, tumbling below, leaving me naked. Facing later the harsh bites of cold, my arms turned brittle from right to left, hearing them creak and break. Thankfully, my feet safe beneath the ground. I stood firm together with my friends, unafraid of the ice but so scared of humans carrying a sharp ax. ______________________________________ ==Contest Name: TREES PERSONIFIED== =Contest Sponsor: Charlotte Pudifoot= ~~4th Place~~ 9:32 pm, August 26, 2015

This is such a great poem about a graceful tree and it's inherent, unpretentious majesty. You truly reveal the wide range of emotions that these beautiful entities harbor, and you create such a memorable metaphor of knowing strength in your roots and faith. I want to quote the 4th verse, "it pose danger making my leaves sad..." deep emotions Poetess, this is Masterpiece Olive...J.A.B. A FAV!

The title was what first attracted me to this lovely poem. You describe the stages that a tree goes through with feelings, both happy and sad. You can put up with nature's treatment, but that meted out by humans is hard to counter! ~ Congrats on yet another win:) hugs // paul

I like how you put yourself as a tree among a group of them that you named the humble cathedral. That was a beautiful idea. And Yes, the tree has its greatest need to fear from man, especially one carrying a horrible ax!! Great imagery!

I like the twist on the last two lines. Trees are attune to the changing nature of the seasons but not to the ways of how humans treat the trees. An excellent piece Kabayan. It deserves a 7. .~Nudershada

There are three trees I was choosing from when I saw the contest but then I wanted something tricky regarding the title something that a reader might look upon and ask why it is.. =') I took time thinking how I'll end this poem.. :D and so I just touched the perils of illegal logging... thanks much!
