Notes About The Poem

Conquering the Blind Scales of Patriarchy

CONQUERING THE BLIND SCALES OF PATRIARCHY Crystal cold are the pupils of some men staring red to jailed porcelain dolls skin dowered for the title of chastity, your curves, your swell, they treated like machines. You can be the light midst darkness, woman yet why they see your body as gold mines, your face displays no favor from their sight. Fruits of labor you bring harvest nothing your virginal flesh dead ere blossoming suspended by sharp claws of ignorance? Aged with grief but rising from conquered fears, woman today shake white-walled home of kings to trumpet-loud the darkness in her feet... Wounded is her heart but still she will stand, her message free flying high without wings She will fight even with the threats of death balancing blind scales of patriarchy, Fears foregone, her bravery stifling pain, peace and justice, equality to all the rights for women her ever after toil! ______________________________________________________ Patriarchy - Poetry Contest Sponsor Name - Thomas Martin ~~Placed 1st~~~ Olive Eloisa Guillermo 10:41 pm, July 16, 2015

Downgrading women is still very much evident in many countries. You speak for those who have no say or freedom to stand up for their rights. Customs and religious beliefs are also partly to blame. #7 hugs // paul

So much truth in this fine gem. Yes, some religions downgrade women to chattel. Some even to less than livestock value. And justify it all in the name of God. Such lies are obscene IMHO. In God's eyes we are all equal souls. Brilliant write a pleasure to read. A7.

Throughout history man has treated women with contempt, and it still happens today. IS & Boko Haram have continued this disgraceful treatment. It's time for nations to unite against such evil and eradicate them once and for all. Great poem Olive, very powerful, hugs always//James :) :)

A TRULY AWESOME POEM .... Across the world women are abused and in some nations they are treated as property same as goats, sheep, cattle and farm animals. This is a pure disgrace and a great tragedy. Fine speaking out my friend! A7

An outpouring of emotions that surges up from the heart and splashes against the page in anguish and defiance. The message is clear and truly poetically expressed with conviction gleaned from the years of frustration the author now shares with the reader. Emile.

Hi Richard, its not actually clear for me what patriarchy is... I did some research and well, been exposed to the middle east where I myself experienced such treatment.. This sparked my pen... though it took me sometime to put it into writing.. =')! Thank you so much for your comment! Appreciate it!!~Olive ELoisa..
