Andrea Dietrich grew up in Iowa and now resides in Utah with a spouse and two cats. She has two grown children and six grandchildren. Having graduated BYU with a Spanish major/ESL minor, she has spent most of her adult life teaching. It wasn't until 2000 that she began writing in earnest and discovering her "niche" as a writer of lyrical poetry. The internet opened up a new world for her, and she has spent two decades now participating in poetry clubs, acting as a judge of poetry contests for various magazines, for the website Shadow Poetry, and for Poetry Soup.

Ms. Dietrich has won numerous awards, as well as the title Poet of the Year 2008, from the Yahoo group, Poetry For Thought. In addition, she has won prizes from the magazines Lucidity, Bell's Letters, Art with Words, Poets at Work and SP Quill, the magazine for which she wrote grammar and poetry articles as well as movie reviews and for which she acted as poetry editor for the head editor Marie Summers for six years. Many of her poems appeared in Shadows Ink, a yearly published series of chapbooks of award winning poetry as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her short stories appeared in many issues of SP Quill and much of her poetry was published in eight chapbooks (no longer sold online).

Since coming to Poetry Soup, Ms. Dietrich has been both contest sponsor and winner of numerous contests. In 2010, her poem "Cinder Girl" was first place winner of Soup's International contest (these contests are no longer held). Z-Film Fest Project, 2014) and the full length movie "Six Days of Sistine" in which 20 poems of Ms. Dietrichs serve as the thoughts of two characters played by Jamie Campbell Bower and Elarica Johnson (directed by Richard J. Gosh, is anyone else having this problem today? I've never enjoyed the addies here, but I have been able to tolerate them. However, now they are singing to me and talking to me at least 50% of the time when I go to click on a poet's poem!!! I even have my volume control turned down pretty low too. What's up with this all of a sudden? PoetrySoup, can you do anything about those kinds of ads here? they are very invasive when one is trying to focus on reading a poem!

Not to complain too much though.... I still have a good attitude!!!! heehee

Hope everyone is having a good week. I had my week off and it was very enjoyable. Today is Pioneer Day in Utah so I expect there will be fireworks going off tonight in my neighborhood..... AGAIN!

What summer fun plans do you guys have coming up? Summer is running out fast and I am starting to get bummed!!

We have a cabin in the Plumas National Forest of Northern California...sits on a lake, so that is where we spend most of our summer fun. A great place to take our family, kids and grandkids and where there is no internet, tv, etc. so it is a great way to get away from all the distractions. Kayaks on the lake, and "smore's "around a firepit...it is such a nice retreat! Heading up there again in a couple of days! :)

my pages are filled with ads--40% of commercial space...anyhow, it's the rainy season here, so i', having a DVD marathon of harry potter... chips and fudge on the side, andie... huggs

that sounds SO yummy, but harry potter?? Why Harry potter? Sometimes I go find poetry of mine under certain "forms" in my poetry pages and ads run through the forms so I can't tell which they are. I really dislike that.

cont- cook out..We cook on small camping gas cookers or on small bbq...Its free and its fun.Other than that..the usual work of mommy routine has to be done B-)

No loud voices here..Just annoying pop ups ooping their eyes : )...Anyways,Re summer,its basically plenty of swimming,more walks to San anton gardens,No boat this year,sold our little one cause it had no cabin..We're hoping to buy one where at least We can shower,cook and sleep on the inside.Since Christina was born two yrs ago our adventures had to be within a limit,and will comtinue to be so...Hoping to go at the beach next week,build sandcastles on the sand and di plenty of swimming.Back home We did a small 6ft by 6ft inflatable pool in the back yard so Christina can splash around there..But Hey Im waiting eagerly for autumn,to meet old school friends with their families and go picnicking.We call it

I have hearing loss so my volume stays on high . Late last night I woke everybody here up when clicking on a new poem to read and this loud music blasted all over the house. Even my son woke up! Quite annoying , so turned my sound completely off for now ... And yes , this is me complaining..

Ok, now I am wondering whether I am one of the few who actually don't have those irritating ads pasted on their pages? I don't think I really encountered those (I hope I don't get them!) Most I have would be the banners on my right side of the screen and one on top. That's it... no loud noises, no pop-ups. Do you have an pop-up blocker? Summer's been long gone here though... Happy Pioneer Day-- do you actually greet it that way? I have no idea....so just happy weekend to you!

Nikko, I think I have pop up blocker but I guess it does not work on the ones that open with music and talking. yes, a few people will actually say Happy Pioneer day to you here!!

well, I went and turned off the volume on my speakers, but I am very forgetful. I will just try to remember to turn them back up when I leave Soup!! Anyway, that's about all I had to say today, and just now I heard the fireworks . It sounded like someone was getting into my house. Scare me to death!!
