Maggie

She isn't beautiful as Nefertiti was. And unlike Helen, her face will never launch a thousand ships. My Maggie's beauty is more open, than entrancing more welcoming, than enthralling, more giving, than demanding, more durable, than perfect. Perfection inspires no passion, no lust. Nefertiti over Maggie? Maggie, with her woman's body? Maggie, with flesh where woman should have flesh? Maggie, with fullness where love and longing would suffer nothing else? Yet she strews a careless beauty all about her, the tender beauty in her gaze that holds and softens and moulds a better man within me than the one that she first knew, and the bold, brave beauty of her crooked smile, her smile that tells me who she is, and who she does not care to be. Her smile may never softly kill a single soul but it warms me, softly warms me as I hold her spent and gentle body close to mine it warms me to dream dreams beyond my worth and aspire beyond my dreams.

Deep emotion/feeling revealed! Splendid... Terry [(BTW, the French flag used to show in my 'profile', but it has vanished, and I can't seem to correct it... but I guess I'll survive :-) ]

Romance it's in purest and most honest form... no poetic fluff here, this felt real. I'm guessing the relationship wasn't at all the same but I couldn't help but think of that old song Maggie May by Rod Stewart... I'm too young to know the song, but I listen to a lot of the classics. Wonderful writing skills!

Well, now I have found MY personal favorite among all your poems, Red. This one will be my first fave poem. And I do not fave them lightly!! I really love the honest way you describe Maggie. Is she still "the one?" (do you know Rod Stewart's Maggie May? An awesome song from my college years)

I had to come back to this one. Exquisite writing, Red. I'm with you on that bewitching smile that warms you. "A smile that tells me who she is and who she does not care to be." Weighty, Mr Wordsmythe. I'm moved. :)

I like the way you placed Maggie, with a beauty no other inherits, makes your poem shine and stand out with pleasure... you painted her smile with your own delight..LINDA
