I guess you could say I'm a citizen of the world. I've traveled....and I've lived parts of my life in Iran, Lebanon, the US, and Cyprus. I am proud of my Armenian heritage. I was born in Tehran, Iran and soon after that, my family went to the States for my dad to work on his MA degree and many years later, to work on his Ed.D. I have a lot of the Middle East and the West in me, and at times....I feel confused about my identity. I do, however, cling to my Armenian roots and am outspoken about recognition by the world of the Armenian Genocide that took place over 100 years ago.

Since my parents had no common language, the language spoken in our home was English. Yes, I am most fluent in English, and I think, dream, and converse in that language, though I do speak 5 other languages to varying degrees! :)

I am melancholy/sanguine by nature and feel everything very keenly. My highs are SUPER HIGH...and my lows...SUPER LOW! I guess you could say...I'm INTENSE. I'm passionate about poetry to the point of obsession.

The events that have colored my life are the death of my mother due to MS and the war in Lebanon. As a child, it was hard for me to come to grips with the fact that my mother was ill, and to see her go from being a vibrant, well-loved teacher to a wheelchair bound, isolated woman was a very harrowing experience. I do believe, though, that there is a resurrection day and that, by His grace, I will see my Mama fully restored...free of wheelchair, able to sing, laugh, and smile again. The war in Lebanon...bombs landing all around, nights spent in bomb shelters.. has also scarred me to some degree.

What I'm most proud of? That would be my daughter...Shereen Natalie Ghali. She is the light of my life. Her name in Farsi means SWEET! :)

Currently, I teach English at Middle East University in Beirut, Lebanon. Poetry Soup has been a haven for me....most of the time! ;) I've developed amazing friendships here that are very genuine and real. My dream is to one day have my name on a volume of poetry! One can always dream....Thank you for making the effort to get acquainted. God bless!

Dear Soupers,

Here is a brief chat I had with Flo today. It will help you understand where she is along the journey of recovery...

Eileen: I hope the doctor's visit went well, sweetie. I hope you're healing well. Love you so much..

Flo: Thanks, Eilee...Long story short, because of a loose neckbrace right out of surgery and a nurse who ignored my concerns, I'm in more pain now than I was out of surgery and my time in the plastic brace has been extended. My x-rays showed everything put in is still where it should be, but the Dr said he'll be able to better tell everything is well in a few weeks.....so I'm just uncomfortable and grumpy right now.

Eileen: I wish there were something I could do....keep the end in sight...you'll see this through. Hugs, Precious One.

Flo: I know you would; thank you, Majesty Getting back off now

Keep Flo in your thoughts and prayers. This complication has set her back a little, and that can be so frustrating. Still, she is slowly getting better because she is able to post little messages here and there. I don't like to tire her, so I keep my messages short.

Flo maybe try some guided visualization cd's - put your mind someplace else? books on tape? I wish I could give you a nice hand or foot massage! [Sometimes they do have massage therapists or reiki healers in the hospitals you should ask!] GET WELL SOON!

Ooooh, Flo! I am trying not to think nasty nasty things about that nurse, who is most likely overworked... still ... my thought bubble has many bad words in it. See, I was there... in a way. I had a C Section and staples and said to the nurse, "I'm not healed yet. I know it. I can FEEL it... they should be left in." and she said, "So... you don't want to leave with your baby today?" She took out of staples, told me to take a shower. As I stepped out of the shower, I slipped a bit, and I split my incision wide open. Look like a scene from PSYCHO. I'm laying there on the bed and I suddenly have FOUR nurses staring towards a spot that should really not be stared at in that way (YES LAUGH) and they LOOK CONFUSED. They had no idea what to do with me! No doctor was called. I was not seen. They said, "call your doctor as soon as you get home." Then? They taped me together, no word of a lie. They did not wash the wound, did not dress it. They literally just taped me. The NEXT DAY when I finally got to see my doctor and got up on the table, THE NURSE AND DOCTOR PALED. The nurse actually started to CRY. Then she said, "oh, you brave thing." I was like, uh, huh? Only later, did I realize everything that had happened, shouldn't have. The doctor could have removed my staples much later... I ended up with homecare for seven weeks... they cannot restitch you for that... they literally just clean and pack the wound everyday. Now, this comment isn't meant to depress you or think HOLY CRAP. You see my homecare nurse was an angel in everyway. She gave me baby advice, made me feel less alone (I had no family to help me, was on my own) So, I am praying that an angel shows up real soon for you, Flo... comfort, a healing hand. xoxox
