When Moon is Full

They met beside the water’s edge
Drawn by the sound of lapping waves
Beneath the gaze of the full moon
Attraction blossomed into love.
But jealous fate split them apart
When out at sea a raging storm
Capsized his boat; no one survived.
But love like theirs could never die…
Twelve times a year she calls his name
Beside the sea where they first met
His words are borne upon a breeze
Her hair caressed; his presence felt…
This time her heart cannot endure
The absence of his form, his touch
She prays to God to bring him back
The veil between them falls away
Once more he pulls her in to him
As fingers trace her tear stained face
His lips claim hers in ardent kiss
She thanks her God for this sweet gift
His breath, his scent, what joy is this?
But when she opens up her eyes
She is alone on windswept beach
Beneath the gaze of the full moon

Dear Eileen, when two golden pens, like yours and Paul's, spill tragic ink together upon the page one can't help but feel the passion and pain of lost love in a visceral way. I was especially struck by the repetition of "Beneath the gaze of the full moon" and its touching association to the heartbreaking verse "Twelve times a year she calls his name" - so subtle yet so potent.. so poignant! A seamless collaboration, you've both captured the bitter beauty of sorrow and yearning where one's reminiscence can feel so real. Warmest wishes, Eileen, your poetic presence has been missed.. ~Susan

Thank you so much for stopping by. The state of the world... especially here in the Middle East has affected my mental health. I don't write as much. I'm glad Paul encourages me now and again. Blessings

Oh, Jan. Thank you. I miss everyone here. I've injured my knee and have been busy lately with MRI..XRAY... and such. I still hobble along. I'll need a shot in the knee. There are other issues that came up, but one day at a time. Thankfully my brother came to visit for 2 weeks. My hubby was gone for about a month. He's returned so things are a bit easier now. Hope I can write more soon. Will be by to visit. Paul is so kind to want to collab with me. It always makes me happy to hear from him with the idea for a poem. Big hugs

I am sooooooo happy to "hear" your voice, and "see" your Poetess Heart embellish PS page again... Pure waters from an artesian well... And a succinctly written collaboration with Paul. I sometimes struggle to comment-a dreadfull shyness I've had since a child... But I do love coming to this library of familiar and comforting poets and their poems. So glad to find you both here. Delightful words. Beloved Ones are buried deep in our heart. To forget them is to forget what's in our hearts. Warm Hug
