Cliches Debunked

To 'ride on somebody's coat tails' Is the most dangerous thing you can do 'Keep a stiff upper lip' is another cliché Mine's not stiff, how about you? 'One good turn deserves another' Turns my stomach if you must ask 'There's no fool like an old fool' I'm quite offended by the last 'Sticks and stones will break my bones' Can break someone's heart as well So if somebody up and says this to you Tell them to go straight to hell 'A penny for your thoughts' is yet another That's pretty damn cheap I'd say A dollar would certainly be more in line With the times we live in today 'A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush' Who made up this silly old verse A bird in the hand is quite messy I'd say Poop on your fingers or worse So I've come to the obvious conclusion Concerning the debunking of clichés Refuse to use 'em coz people abuse 'em You'll wind up much happier I say © Jack Ellison 2013

"That's one small step for man And one giant leap for mankind" I myself think that's quite unlikely For every man in the world to jump at the same time! <<< your poetry does this to me... great fun! They say as you get older you start loosing your noggin but you seem more imaginative than most!

I guess you haven't seen the shirt that says a penny for your thoughts seems a little overpriced lol. Clerihewed- to be put in a silly clerihew by someone who obviously was bored and didn't have anything better to write, or was trying to lighten the mood for a brief moment. That's the offical definition lol. Great work here, I enjoyed this one alot.

Jack...this is absolutely awesome. I teach a writing class and one of the things the students are taught is not to use cliches! This will be a perfect poem to share with them to add some levity to the subject matter! Thanks! :)

'A penny for a thought' is OK for me. since that's all mine are worth. A ride on some one's coat tails is fun if they're running fast enough. As they stop prepare to crash... A coat tail can only hold up so much. Sticks and stones WILL break my bones. That's why I took the Troll's clubs. One good turn deserves another is my most favorite by far. If to do it makes me an old fool. Then I'm the happiest one by far! LOL. Had fun with that one. You made my day... It sorta rhymed... Did you notice?
