The Seasons of Our Love

On summer nights
Nostalgia's muse revives
Scent of jasmine
Fig tree fragrance fuses
Memories meander
Minty ice cream flavours
Add sweetness to hungry kisses

Star gazing to cricket symphony
Roof top whispers of love's infinity
Days drenched with salty waves
Sun flared skin soothed
In joint showery sprinkles

Summer days, summer nights
Surges of joy, exquisite delight
Looking back, I sigh, I cry
You entwined with my summer high
And now...

Autumn in here and you are not
The nagging rain will not stop
Yet I take a walk, soaking up this misery
The smell of dead leaves turned to rot
Instead of those forget-me-nots
Fills the air
How can I not care?

What happened? How? When? Where?
A memory sleuth, I search every moment
Empty... no clue of love's demise
Rain tears flow from my eyes
Your sensual summer vows
Forgotten somehow
And now....

I wait a brutal winter blight
with no promise of spring

Dear Eileen, an excellent portrait of love's changing seasons, from the warmth of summer's embrace to the cold grip of winter's absence. The imagery of nostalgic summer nights and the melancholy of autumn's decay evokes a sense of longing and loss. Your words are filled with raw emotion, capturing the complexity of love's journey. May you find peace in the memories of summer's joy, even as you navigate the chill of winter's solitude. Blessings, Daniel.

Thank you, Daniel. I appreciate the detailed response. Love has a way of changing through time. If it's real love, it's a love for all seasons. Blessings.

Your poem beautifully captures the essence of summer nights filled with nostalgia and longing. The imagery of jasmine scent, fig tree fragrance, and minty ice cream flavours evokes vivid sensory experiences that transport the reader to moments of love and passion. The juxtaposition of joy and sorrow, expressed through memories of shared kisses and starlit rooftops, creates a poignant reflection on the transient nature of happiness.

Mint ice cream is my favorite! ;) Since becoming fully vegan, I don't get to enjoy that or mint flavored chocolate either. Oh well, that's life. Thanks for the comment, SO. This poem was in my unfinished pile of poems, so I decided to finish it. It took on a life of it's own.

I love this poem, Eileen, mostly because like you I often tread on the paths of nostalgia. Your summer days & nights are filled with delightful imagery.....no wonder autumn changes the mood and you dread the arrival of winter. ~ Warm regards & Hugs my friend // paul

Hey! What a joy to have you visit. Hope all is well. I was actually just writing a poem about the essence of summer. It wasn't meant to be a romantic ramble, but...today when I went to check out my unfinished poems, I came across this one and wrote a different ending. Thanks or the visit.
