You Keep Me Grounded

You keep me grounded
to the soil of my soul
reminding me again
that my words matter
that they help scatter
misconceptions
making connections
pathways to inner places
leaving conjugated traces
of emotional bleeds
and epiphanies

you keep me grounded
when nothing pulls me back
and I float free
tired of poetic mediocrity
nothing new under the sun
not clever enough for that pun
heart sore and word desert bare
when I can't be bothered to care
you keep me grounded

you read the forgotten lines
find a charm, find a rhyme
something of beauty
a pleasure filled treasue
my effort you measure
and when my heart bleeds
you sound the alarm
checking on me
helping me to be
OK
you keep me grounded

Once again, I write
my muse metaphorically in flight
paradoxically poetic
for.....it's now clear to me
you keep me grounded....here

Dedicated to Richard Lamoureux!

Richard, thanks for the many many visits
and for making me want to stay
You keep me grounded
what can I say :)

In hard times it is always heartening to receive a welcome visit, a word of encouragement. Richard is capable of both, and more. A deserved tribute, Eileen. Hugs // paul

LOVE THIS, the flow, the rhyme and delivery are a succinct and complete awesome poem that delivers a straight hit to my poetry adrenaline. I've missed reading you, it has been too long. But what a great poem to first jump back into reading your talent. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Ahh it is a really lovely poem and your tribute is awesome, Richard sure is a really nice guy, always encouraging and his visits are always a pleasure to see, just like you, it is because of poetrysoup that I am still writing my poems, when I started doing poetry last year, my poems were quite ordinary, with grammer and even spelling issues, but still they always encourage me and even sent me soupmails to make corrections to my mistakes, I totally love this community, good luck

Hi Eileen, thanks for the dedication. I didn’t realize you posted it until you sent me the soup mail. Our son and his wife have been with us this week so I have spent little time here. I have tried to respond to when I have received visits on my posts but am even behind on that. This piece warms my heart.

a beautiful thank you to richard, eileen! i can relate to how you feel about your words not mattering but i find that i'm really writing for myself and getting my thoughts into rhyme makes me feel good. of course, it's great to know that others are reading and even better when they comment, but i'll keep writing even if they don't...(hope you do, too! i enjoy your writing!)

Thank you, Tom. There are many here who are my friends and who visit me. Richard is not a reciprocal visitor. He visits whether or not I've visited him. He visits when I'm away. I was feeling very detached from this place when today I got comments on about ten of my poems from Richard. It made me feel appreciated. Thanks for the visit.
