The Introverted Mood of Night

I sat in languid candle light
as water poured outside
and lightning flashed, defied
the introverted mood of night.
From flash to flash my roaming mind
the realms of love traversed;
my thoughts like bubbles burst
pinched in the bud, left undefined.
Yet effervescence would not cease
I knew that up till dawn
the need for you would spawn –
A constant tease without release.
Each image brought a burning ache.
The yearning would not sleep
but thundered in the deep.
My body trembled in its wake.
Remembered touches of your hand
tormenting naked skin
the veil between us thin
your pilgrim lips on sacred land.
In endless night, your presence near
yet never truly there.
My heart you did not spare.
Without your love, my life so drear.
