The Day You Gently Let Me Go
You knew our love would end in pain
Its sun kissed glow dissolve in rain
Delight would turn into disdain
And so, you gently let me go
You saw the future and you knew
They’d try to tear our hearts in two
what else was there for you to do?
You thought to gently let me go
You knew my heart would someday break
Our love so sweet, but a mistake
With all that seemed to be at stake
You had to gently let me go
You felt the prick of unborn sigh
You held me tight and said a lie
“My love for you will never die”
And yet, you gently let me go
You watched me weep, and scream, and rage
I lay there broken on the stage
Our Play had reached its final page
And so, you gently let me go
Your love? No longer on display
Your lips? All sealed, no words to say
Our rainbow gone, you live in grey
And mourn the day you let me go
