Dear Soupers,
I Love you....In Maltese!
I'm back from Malta...and here are a few thoughts I'd like to share with you.
1) Words bind hearts together: I met Charmaine Chircop and Paul Callus. What can I say? They are all that I expected them to be and more. Paul Callus and his wife, daughter, and granddaughter surprised us at the airport. How wonderful to finally meet the man with whom I have collabed on five poems.... :) My heart was full. He has the most endearing smile and blue eyes! What a family!!! I came to love them as well. His daughter later told me that they had questioed him: "How are you so sure that these people you met in cyberworld are really nice people? You always tell us to be careful." Paul's answer: "I KNOW Charmaine and Eileen. I KNOW them." How? Through our words. I had arranged for Charmaine and Paul to meet me and my family the next day at the hotel where were staying. How can I express my joy at seeing Charmine? I hugged and hugged her and cried and cried. Her voice is soft...mellow...just like her poetry...and her eyes? What a mixture of colors and emotions swirl in them. What a classy lady. I also got to met her wonderful and kind husband and beautiful little girl. What a sweet family!
These kind people, Paul, Charmaine and families, took time out of their Easter celebrations to show us around and to share their love, presents, and presence with us. They treated us to goodies. They showed the warm natrue of Maltese people to perfection. Charmaine and her husband met up with us in the afternoon and took us to the place where Paul healed Publius's father. We saw an Easter parade, thanks to them. Paul and his family met me in Mdina, the Silent City, and showed me the wonder of two churches. They also treated me to the best sweets in Fontanella....ask Jan for details. It's to die for! My family was so impressed by my wonderful friends who showered me with love and respect. Paul and family also saw me off at the airport and yes.... there were tears. Charmaine wanted to come, but she had a previous engagement.....Yes, cyber friends are REAL friends...DEAR friends....FOREVER friends. My Blog photos is of me and Paul. Charmaine was to my left, but she asked me not to post her pic because she didn't like her new haircut, though I thought it was FABULOUS! I must respect her wishes!
2) Beauty is timeless: Malta is country full of mystic and romance. I felll in love with it right away. It is steeped in history and the colorful architecture bears testament to it's rich cultural heritage. I could go on and on about the wonders of Malta. I think what got me most was the splash of colors ....the quaint and beautiful balconies and lattice work, and of course....the shipping boats and azure seas. What beauty! I have loads of pics to download.
4) Live Life to the Full: We were in Malta to celebrate my dad's 80th birthday. Life is so precious. However many days we live, and they are all recorded in God's book, we should celebrate every day to the full....drink in, absorb, SEE, .experience, touch, feel, taste, and LIVE. Every day is a gift. Don't leave dreams unfulfilled.
5) It's Never too Late to Learn: I tried so hard to learn a few Maltese phrases. It's such a beautiful language, and we can understand quite a bit of it because it is a mix of Italian, Arabic, and some French. I loved the language and would love to learn more of it.
5) Vacatons don't last forever: I loved being pampered. The Radisson Blue is a five star hotel in St Julian's. I loved it. The scenery....the palm trees, the sea....the beauty...the service...the food...the luxury. It's easy to want to live a lifestyle that is beyond your means and to forget the reality of your situation. On a vacation, you tend to ignore those niggling problems that won't go away, the things that sadden....you want to relish each moment, but vacations do end. We must strive to be content, as the dear Aposlte Paul has written:
I left a piece of my heart back in Malta, and I'm sure...at some point in time, I will visit this enchanting country again. A BIG thank you to my two Maltese Souper SUPER friends and their families for playing a part in creating memories for me that will bring me joy in years to come.
