What types of poems are your favorite to write?

Hi,

Good morning, I am enjoying these fun, light hearted blogs and wanted to post one also! What types of poems are your favorite to write?

Not really much of a favorite, just something you feel and you just need to get it out. A wondering mind that keeps you up at night. As a poet it leads to a story or a topic that someone can relate to.

I don't really have a favorite. What I write depends on my mood. Since I no longer write for contests, the themes don't influence me, but the poetry of others has often pulled the string to a lightbulb overhead. There are times when my lines take on a direction of their own. I recently started out with something somber, but the last verse rebelled and went rogue, ending quite humorously. What I consider some of my most meaningful poems were sorrowful ones, written based on a tragic time in my life.

I consider myself an incorrigible romantic and my poems reflect that. I love writing love poems. And it's easy to tell that I'm a huge nature lover as well. Love and nature poems are definitely my forte, but I don't shy away from tackling dark, unsettling themes( ex. "Fig Leaf") I love writing in different forms, but my favorite is definitely free verse because they're fun and easy to write. I don't have to worry about meter, rhyme schemes, syllable count, etc.

I love writing free verse but that doesn't mean they're the most fun. Monorhymes are great for creating silly poems so... fun. Shapes are always fun too. It's fun that you asked, Tania.

It depends on the theme how I will write it. Nature or romance I usually do as rhymed. Actually I draw most of my inspiration from challenges here, so I practice the form they tell us to use and if it's "our choice" I choose a form that seems to go best with the message I am trying to get across. For example, limerick for something funny, also couplets for humor. Sonnets can be almost anything to write about. i think it can sometimes sound glib to use sing-song meter for a very serious topic. I wish I could be more a minimalist like Agnes. If I were really good at haiku, I would do many more of them.

Andrea, I also like to write more rhyme poems than any other type. I have found that I really like haiku poems and limericks as well. I also get inspired by the contests! Thank for your comments!

I write mostly about love and romance. It is my favorite subject to write about. Many moments that circle life, I can and have written about as well. Form is optional. I am not one to linger in a specific form. Depends on the mood and moment. :) Brandy

I started at school influenced by Edward Lear, Lewes Carol and later, Ogden Nash. Serious poetry came much later. I like to write in rhyming form as I think this makes best use of the natural rhythm and flow of words. I suppose I would now consider myself as a nature poet.

In general I enjoy writing in rhyme about 'The happy highways where I went' and just hope others enjoy going there too. The seaside keeps cropping up in my poems in some form or other. I like the seaside at any time of the year - but out of season in particular.

Ambiguously sensual, tinged with dark edges ... I don't like graphic poetry of any kind. The reader's imagination is our greatest tool as writers, and it is most fun for me to get those passion wheels turning - let their minds do the rest! Tania, thanks for the blog about poetry, I like writing sad poems about experiences in my own life, it is my forte, and poems about my past, my childhood. I also like writing nature poems, oh I can just get lost in the imagery, and I like the challenge of contests that often take me to themes I would not have gone but end up liking a lot, I think of poetry like putting pieces of a puzzle together, starting with the first word, the rhymes, the syllables and fitting them into a form _Constance
