The Magic of Winter

Winter winds howl and rustle barren trees
As snowflakes coat like frosting and freeze
Dawn’s early pink colors emerge in the sky
The sun starts to warmly brighten and dry

Tree tops shimmer under the golden sun
The winter magic show has now begun
A red cardinal’s perched feasting on seed
His feathers glimmer as wet snowflakes bead

Snow sparkles like tiny diamond crystals
Blanketing the ground and nearby thistles
Squirrels scurry about chattering away
While busily stealing from feeders all day

Cedar waxwings feast on frozen berries
While their whistling chirping carries
Crows cackle and circle around
Heed warnings as snow surrounds

Nature carries on despite the bitter cold and snow
As Winter’s show magically glimmers and glows

We have no snow in Malta, but it is so cold. So in a way, I can relate to your beautiful poem.

There are so many beautiful things to appreciate in winter... if we can bundle up enough from the cold to enjoy them. ;-)
