*** Notice to the residents of Milton Creek *** Tom serves as mayor. never complaining, so he gets what he requests No blood in his steak, apple pie with sweet cream. Aces cooks that meal to perfection and I profess it will be made available to all of our guests but only if you cowboys remove those sharp spurs from your boot heels You won't find cilantro in my kitchen. That stuff makes Tom start itchin'. The last thing I wanna do is be the reason our Mayor starts b******! Sheriff Koplin's visited me and has asked me to put on the new menu a dish New Orleans is famous for. He loves beignets and cafe au lait, but crawfish are mudbugs he won't eat. I'll not serve them at this venue. But he thinks shrimp are fine, battered and fried, or simmered in etouffee'. Often, he asks for take-out when he has horse thieves locked up in his jail. Kyle drools but sheriff reminds him that he should'na bonked a bangtail. Tania's long been adored for her singing. She has an angel's sweet voice. She's partial to anything Italian tasting, smothered in parmesan cheese, but she'll eat whatever I choose to cook, sayin', "Lin, It's your choice." I'll make Whoopie Pie for her, 'a Northern thing.' Maybe some Chinese. Tania's never been afraid to help when the bad guys mosey into town, and quick to stand with everyone, and from fights she won't back down. Jan would like sticky toffee pudding. Seems she has quite a sweet tooth. She's the new owner of Manx Saloon and she fits in real good with us. We welcome her to our town, though her limericks are a titch uncouth. She's made it clear that she won't put up with those who cause a fuss. Jan is a lady but won't take kindly with no shady folk lookin' for trouble I heard tell she wants to hire a bouncer to toss em' out with the rubble. I haven't overlooked Ranger David's love for anything made with beef. He's on our southern border, organizing a wall to keep interlopers out. But he'll be back in Milton Creek soon enough to arrest any sneak thief. To the brothel 'ladies' he's so fond of... Cheers, girls. Don't you pout. Be careful down there, David. Word is those hombres are really rotten, But hurry back home to us... No need to think you'd ever be forgotten. Deb likes roast beef and veggies, as long as the gravy is deliciously thick. I mustn't forget the Yorkshire Pudding, but it's something I'll be skipping. Thinking it was a cream-filled dessert, Deb said she'd offer me a lick, but passed on wanting a taste when I knew it's made with meat drippings. At least she didn't ask for vegemite or the feud with Tom would renew. No vegemite or marmite will be served at Aces, not even in my beef stew. I found some recipes that Milt left behind in back of a kitchen drawer. Being from Kentucky, I'll be honoring him with his Bourbon Pecan Pie. He's terribly missed, and the Creek will never be the same as before... Before the day Milt went away without the chance to tell us 'goodbye.' How proud he would be of the town that now proudly bears his name, founded in days of the wild west and outlaws, it took all of us to tame. I had to chase down Deputy Terry to find out what food he's fondest of It took some doin' cuz he's ridin' the range in search of 'The Bad Guys.' I found him near the mountains and he told me (3 times) that he loves cheese of any sort. I saw that mischievous twinkle in his smiling eyes and told him I'd pasture cows and goats for milk for the making of curds. He grinned at me, blushed and said, "Thank ya. I'll clean up their turds." As a New Orleans native, I'll be adding a few of my favorite recipes... Southern fried chicken that's finger licken' and file' gumbo will be nice. It might be a bit difficult to get fresh seafood to cook up my specialties and there's no such thing in pioneer days as a freezer filled with ice. I'll make bread pudding with whiskey sauce purchased from the Manx. Come to Aces and feast on these fine dishes and I'll offer my thanks. There's an empty building next to Aces that I'll apply for with a lease A restaurant, vacated a while back when people got sick from the steaks. Some townsfolk complained about the rancid taste of too much grease. Now, they eat at Aces and tell me they enjoy my cookin' and fresh bakes. I think I'll redecorate the dining room with new tables and nicer chairs. Milt liked the color blue... I'll get blue drapes for the bedrooms upstairs. New Additions to Ace's Menu: Appeteasers: File' Gumbo.... Cup or Bowl (Roux based with crab and shrimp) Entrees: Cheers David... Anything that's not Mexican Tania's Choice... Lin's Special of the Day Mayor Tom's Steak and Pie (Prime Beef and Apple Pie) Sheriff Koplin's Etouffee'... Shrimp Stew over steaming rice Deb's Roast Beef Plate... Tender slices of beef with gravy Deputy Terry's Chicken Pot Pie... Flaky crust, thick gravy and fixin's New Orleans Roast Beef Po Boy... local beef on French Bread Desserts: Milt's Kentucky Gambler... Bourbon Pecan Pie Jan's Sweet Tooth... Sticky Toffee Pudding Sheriff Koplin's Beignet's Tania's Whoopie Pie Terry's Cheese Plate Lin's Golden Delicious Apple Pie

The problem with writing around midnight as I often do, is getting halfway through a comment and falling asleep. Apologies for that but at least I didn’t fall asleep while reading your new menu. Sounds tasty and that flaky chicken pie will go down a treat. As delicious a poem as I have ever tasted… er… read. Terry.

Thanks, Terry. I see I'll have to keep you filled with food and coffee to keep you awake. Maybe I'll speak with the mayor about hiring another deputy, especially now that Ranger David will be busy getting that wall up to keep the loco ones out of Milton Creek.

It's in the hills, somewhere in the American southwest. It was founded as Soup Creek. When one of its founding members, L. Milton Hankins, passed away last December, we changed the name to honor his memory.

Where might this place be? The photograph suggests Milton Creek is in a desert; far from your New Orleans swamps lol

A FAV for my collection, Lin, a fine addition to the tales of Milton Creek. You did a good thing member'n ol' Milt in this here poem, my friend. I'm sure he's right proud of your fine cooking and writing. I'll drop by for some vitals next time I ride through them parts. Happy Trails, Bill (AKA Whiskers).

Howdy, Whiskers. Thanks for the fav. I think a few things needed updating, so I asked the good people of Milton Creek for their favorite foods and they were glad to learn that other place was gone. You be sure and stop in next time you ride this way. First order of beignets is on the house. Thanks!

I'll have to clean it up before I move in and make a bakery out of it. That's if Tom signs a permit. I think that other owner just moved in without going through the permit office. Thanks for the news and your great comments, Sheriff. You get free beignets (doughnuts) whenever you want them. Isn't that what the police expect? ;-)

Hi Deb, and if what you want isn't on the menu, I'll be happy to cook it for you! Thanks, Chick.

The menu is very appetising (though I'm confused about Beef Po Boy - sounds like it should be served in one of those restaurants my son visited on his travels where your seats are toilets - not sure Milton would be flushed with that idea in aces and no Mexican for me, it leaves a bitter aftertaste and other issues. I admit I do adore a nicely cooked sirloin steak or steak and Ale pie - perhaps you can add that to the menu there is some good ale from 'Bushy's on the isle of Man:-) hugs Jan xx

Then let me tempt you further... I'll get you a Po Boy and you can stay with me, have beignets every morning and do whatever we choose to do.

Geeze, Jan... you have to get your toilet humor into everything. lol A roast beef Po Boy is thinly sliced hot roast beef in a wonderfully flavored gravy, served on a baguette of French Bread. Steak and apple pie ARE on the menu... steaks are prime cuts of T Bone for cowboys or filet mignon for the ladies... not the tougher cut of sirloin. If you import Bushy's to the Manx, I'll try some.

I see this was a POTD! It was dripping with so much flavor and a bouncer to boot! My son was a bouncer for a bit at a Cowboy bar. He was short but tough - a wrestler! Congratulations!

nah, not a POTD, just Mayor Tom likin' his steak and apple pie with a dollop of fresh whipped cream. Thanks, Kim. I don't know about the bouncer... last I heard the position was still open. LOL Kim.

A real mouth watering verse Lin, my stomach is rumbling lol. A big fave from me and well deserving of POTD. Tom PS. I'll be over at six as I got a couple of buriels this pm.
