I am very fond of feeding, watching and identifying birds. I have battled squirrels for years at my bird feeders. Over the years, I have grown to appreciate their beauty and entertainment and no longer view them as just plain pests. Last year I was blessed to spot a rare white one in my neighborhood on my daily walks.

Superbly agile and acrobatic creatures. Quirky zigzag moves and mannerisms. Unique techniques for stealing seeds and nuts. Incredibly strong front incisors that keep growing. Really smart, mischievous and very entertaining. Ready to rob and tackle any bird feeder, even squirrel proof. Extremely resilient during harsh winters. Loud chirping and chattering when near by. Sometimes they are white, but mostly grey, red or brown.

Funny, lovely, true. Those little busy creatures. I have such love/hate relationships with them. They certainly do hog the birdseed. :( But you're right, they are fun to watch. Some are so skittish and some so brazen. I wonder how many oak trees they inadvertently plant each year, making hundreds of homes for other mammals, birds and insects. :)

This is really nice. I love this animal. Never saw a white one before. My brother in law calls the black ones as black rats, I hate that.

A lovely acrostic poem Tania. Delightful. Well written. I too, love squirrels, but had them (grey) in my roof last year which was a bit worrying! Prefer to see them playing in the garden. They are mischievous and entertaining. Really enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing. :)

Hello Tania, when the snow is on the ground, it seems the squirrels forget where where they hid their nuts. so they keep searching for food. Hugs. We have red grey and black squirrels. Hugs./Darlene/
