AHHHHHHHH!!!!
You've done it, Scary Story writers! I had goosebumps and spontaneous laughter while reading your amazing entries! Who said scary stories can't have humor? I loved every one I read, so the judging is not easy! Thank you all who have entered and all who are following this contest for support.
I am planning to finalize the judging no later than Thursday, Oct.17th, and will contact the top 3 for your prize information within 24 hrs of posting the results.
I was leery about trying this again, sponsoring a contest, but so far so good! I'm so grateful for the outpouring of support and encouragement! I pray you will be pleased with the results and happy for the 3 poets whom I choose for the top 3 winners, and 12 Honorable Mentions. Our opinions will vary of course, so keep in mind that I am not a professional and the judging is simply my opinion based on the contest requirements.
I decided to sponsor this contest because sharing scary stories and poems during this season is a tradition in my family. We gather around a camp fire with all of the usual goodies, cocoa, smores, hot toddies, and more! Then we each share a spooky tale we've made up or recently read. There are always the usual ones like, Poe's "The Tell- Tale Heart", and cultural tales passed on through the generations.
So, this year, with your permission, I'd like to share some of your entries to this contest! They will be a hit! I'll reach out to those whose stories I'd like to use, to get your permission. Thank you again to all who have entered such awesome poems!

Here are a few of the scary or seasonal stories, lyrics and poems I've learned over the years... that are especially loved by kids.
1.Old Woman All Skin and Bone
Song by Harley Poe
There was an old woman all skin and bone
Who lived in the graveyard, all alone
Ooouuoouuooouuuuh
She thought she'd go to church one day
To hear the parson preach and pray
Ooouuoouuooouuuuh
And when she came to the church house style
She thought she'd stop and rest a while
Ooouuoouuooouuuuh
When she came up to the door
She thought she'd stop and rest some more
Ooouuoouuooouuuuh
But when she turned and looked around
She saw a corpse upon the ground
Ooouuoouuooouuuuh
From its nose down to its chin
The worms crawled out and the worms crawled in
Ooouuoouuooouuuuh
The woman to the preacher said
"Shall I look like that when I am dead?"
Ooouuoouuooouuuuh
The preacher to the woman said
"You will look like that when you are dead"
AAAAH!
2.The Hearse Song
Don’t ever laugh when a hearse goes by,
or you may be the next to die.
They wrap you up in a big white sheet,
from your head down to your feet.
The worms crawl in , the worms crawl out.
The worms play pinochle on your snout.
They eat your eyes, they eat your nose.
They eat the jelly between your toes.
They put you in a big black box,
and cover it up with dirt and rocks.
All goes well for about a week,
and then your coffin begins to leak.
The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out.
The worms play pinochle on your snout.
They neat your eyes, they eat your nose.
They eat the jelly between your toes.
A big green worm with rolling eyes,
crawls in your stomach and out your eyes.
Your stomach turns a slimy green,
and puss comes out like whipping cream.
You spread it on a slice of bread,
and that what you eat when you are dead.
3. IN The Dark, Dark Woods
(chanted in a slow,spooky voice)
In a dark, dark wood, there was a dark, dark house.
And in that dark, dark house, there was a dark, dark room.
And in that dark, dark room, there was a dark, dark closet.
And in that dark, dark closet, there was a dark, dark shelf.
And on that dark, dark shelf, there was a dark, dark box.
And in that dark, dark box, there was a GHOST!
What are some that you know???
