April is National Poetry month

Poetry.org is a fine place to find info on all things poetic. The following info was found there and what great ideas!

Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month is

now held every April, when schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and
poets throughout the United States band together to celebrate poetry and its
vital place in American culture. Thousands of organizations participate through
readings, festivals, book displays, workshops, and other events.

In this age of mechanical and digital reproduction, it's easy to carry a
poem, share a poem, or start your own PIYP day event. Here are some ideas of how
you might get involved:

Start a "poems for pockets" give-a-way in your school or workplace

  • Urge local businesses to offer discounts for those carrying poems
  • Post pocket-sized verses in public places
  • Handwrite some lines on the back of your business cards
  • Start a street team to pass out poems in your community
  • Distribute bookmarks with your favorite immortal lines
  • Add a poem to your email footer
  • Post a poem on your blog or social networking page
  • Project a poem on a wall, inside or out
  • Text a poem to friends

  • I have a few friends here I would like to give a bit of the poetry to. This are the lines and phrases which formed me.

To Andrea D.: The Charge of the Light Brigade

"ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do and die"
"Ours" here means "our duty." Tennyson was saying the horsemen had no
choice about obeying or even thinking about the command, but to blindly obey it
even though they knew it would cost them their lives. Personally, I have FOUGHT this fataliztic attitude my whole life. I was not born to die or to bare a cross if you feel this way much of my poetry is meant to dissuade you.

To Charles Henderson & Carolyn: The Children's Hour by Longfellow

I have you fast in my fortress,
And will not let you depart,
But put you down into the dungeon
In the round-tower of my heart.

And there will I keep you forever,
      Yes, forever and a day,
Till the walls shall crumble to ruin,
      And moulder in dust away!

*You are in my fortress ;).

To Cyndi: Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening

The woods are lovely, dark and deep
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
And miles to go before I sleep.

*We who have seen the woods no longer fear it. It is in our hearts.

Please JOIN in and leave a poem for me OR for anyone else you like...I will add more as the blog progresses HAPPY POETRY MONTH

And one more to Deb: "She has a world of ready wealth, Our minds and hearts to bless— Spontaneous wisdom breathed by health, Truth breathed by cheerfulness. -----and then----- Enough of Science and of Art; Close up those barren leaves; Come forth, and bring with you a heart That watches and receives. ----------William Wordsworth/Tables Turned

This poem by Emerson does not completely apply to the relationship between Carolyn and I with Debs. We're friends no matter what. But, it does show that sometimes friendships come dispite our toughest efforts to thwart the intimate relationship which ultimately wins out. I thought it was sort of about a friendship you find in a round a bout way. The name of the poem is Friendship.////////////// by Ralph Waldo Emerson\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ A ruddy drop of manly blood The surging sea outweighs; The world uncertain comes and goes, The lover rooted stays. I fancied he was fled, And, after many a year, Glowed unexhausted kindliness Like daily sunrise there. My careful heart was free again- O friend, my bosom said, Through thee alone the sky is arched, Through thee the rose is red, All things through thee takes nobler form And look beyond the earth, The mill-round of our fate appears A sun-path in thy worth. Me too thy nobleness has taught To master my despair; The fountains of my hidden life Are through thy friendship fair.

The verses of poetry below, are so moving...such true examples of how a poem can capture the perfect words, to express our thoughts, admiration, or friendships. To all the amazing people I have met in this unusual and unique website:: " Both of us understood/what a privilege it was/to be out for a walk/with each other/we could tell from our different/heights that this/kind of thing happened/so rarely that it might/not come round again" .....from 'The Pinnacle' by W.S. Carrie Richards: Poe/ A Dream Within a Dream-[I stand amid the roar/ Of a surf-tormented shore,/ And I hold within my hand/ Grains of the golden sand-/ How few! yet how they creep/ Through my fingers to the deep,/ While I weep- while I weep!/ O God! can I not grasp/ Them with a tighter clasp?/ O God! can I not save/ One from the pitiless wave?/ Is all that we see or seem/ But a dream within a dream?]

Ah, there's my torchbearer, keeper of the verse, healer and word-dealer :) How lovely! I will I will--- but tonight I MUST finish my judging, write my blog and today I am at Verity's school, helping out. It's raining today and getting her to school will mean trying to keep her in a stroller, dry, for at least a period of time. I will need to promise her a chance to puddle-dance on the way back home... Next year will be both harder (emotionally) and yet easier (organizationally). Hugs to you, what a wonderful blog! To Rueben: This is how I see you ;) by Alfred Noyes-The Highwayman- THE wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees, The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas, The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor, And the highwayman came riding— Riding—riding— The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door.

RUBEN (to me) is Nature, by Ralph Waldo Emerson, "There I feel that nothing can befall me in life,--no disgrace, no calamity (leaving me my eyes), which nature cannot repair, Standing on the bare ground,--my head bathed by the blithe air and uplifted into infinite space,--all mean egotism vanishes"
