Petal

Pink and perfect mystery 
to which I ply my finger, 
she ripens so exquisitely
the longer that I linger

and fluff the modest blossom
with my gentle loving hand,
teasing, ever pleasing
so that now I understand

how beautiful the flower
that yields without duress,
blooming now so fully
in the warmth of my caress.

Hello Keith, "Petal" is a very intimate poem about a relationship—perhaps a courtship. The poem says true beauty and fulfillment come from mutual understanding and affectionate interaction. Relationships, whether with flowers or people, require patient cultivation.

Your poem made me smile. I have hydrangeas outside my front door. They are my favorite flower as I love different hues of blue, second to Gerber daisies and pink tulips. :) I used to live in Vermont and had the most beautiful wildflower gardens. Your poem made me think of them. There are very few things that are softer than a flower petal. Such a sweet "pretty" poem. I'm glad I found it.

There is a sexual tone here. This is very poetic and well-done with the diction. I like what you have done here. The rhyme is perfect.
