You GO Gal!

Blog Posted:3/23/2013 4:37:00 PM

March is Women's History month, men have pretty much written woman out of history.
I really can tell if has gotten any better in the 20th and 21st century BUT I
think so. I believe this writing us started when men for some reason were
deemed the only ones worthy of being taught to read, and then write. Of course,
the trend was not helped by the Catholic Church deciding to not include the
Gospel of Mary, and supporting the Jewish & Muslim tradition of blaming Eve
for the fall. [BAH!] Any WHO here is the first POET in recorded HIS???STORY...

I never heard of her? Did you?

Enheduanna (2285 - 2250 BCE)

The daughter of King Sargon of Akkad, Enheduanna was an Akkadian princess and the High Priestess of the Moon god Nanna in Ur, the capital of Sumeria. She's also possibly the earliest known author and poet of either gender. Her works include personal devotions to the goddess Inanna, along with "Sumerian Temple Hymns." These hymns represent one of the first attempts at a systematic theology. Scholars also believe that a number of texts currently not attributed to Enheduanna may indeed be her work. She's remembered as an important figure who may even have been revered as a semi-god by her people.

The exaltation of Inana (Inana B)

1-12. Lady of all the divine powers, resplendent light, righteous woman clothed in radiance, beloved of An and Uraš! Mistress of heaven, with the great diadem, who loves  the good headdress befitting the office of en priestess, who has seized all seven of its divine powers! My lady, you are the guardian of the great divine
powers! You have taken up the divine powers, you have hung the divine powers from your hand. You have gathered up the divine powers, you have clasped the divine powers to your breast. Like a dragon you have deposited venom on the foreign lands. When like Iškur you roar at the earth, no vegetation can stand up to you. As a flood descending upon (?) those foreign lands, powerful one of heaven and earth, you are their Inana.

13-19. Raining blazing fire down upon the Land, endowed with divine powers by An, lady who rides upon a beast, whose words are spoken at the holy command of An! The great rites are yours: who can fathom them? Destroyer of the foreign lands, you confer strength on the storm. Beloved of Enlil, you have made awesome terror weigh upon the Land. You stand at the service of An's commands.

20-33. At your battle-cry, my lady, the foreign lands bow low. When humanity comes before you in awed silence at the terrifying radiance and tempest, you grasp the most terrible of all the divine powers. Because of you, the threshold of tears is opened, and people walk along the path of the house of great lamentations. In the van of battle, all is struck down before you. With your strength, my lady, teeth can crush flint. You charge forward like a charging storm. You roar with the
roaring storm, you continually thunder with Iškur. You spread exhaustion with the stormwinds, while your own feet remain tireless. With the lamenting balag drum a lament is struck up.

A partial translation from the Gospel of Mary which was excluded from the Bible. This is the first time I have read any of it, how about you?

http://www.maryofmagdala.com/GMary_Text/gmary_text.html

"… Will m[a]tter then be utterly [destr]oyed or not?" The Savior replied, "Every nature, every modeled form, every creature, exists in and with each other. They will dissolve again into their own proper root. For the nature of matter is dissolved into what belongs to its nature. Anyone with two ears able to hear should listen!" Then Peter said to him, "You have been explaining every topic to us; tell us one other thing. What is the sin of the world?" The Savior replied, "There is no such thing as sin; rather you yourselves are what produces sin when you act in accordance with the nature of adultery, which is called 'sin.' For this reason, the Good came among you, pursuing (the good) which belongs to every nature. It will set it within its root." Then he continued. He said, "This is why you get si[c]k and die: because [you love] what de[c]ei[ve]s [you]. [Anyone who] thinks should consider (these matters)! "[Ma]tter gav[e bi]rth to a passion which has no Image because it derives from what is contrary to nature. A disturbing confusion then occurred in the whole body. That is why I told you, 'Become content at heart, while also remaining discontent and disobedient; indeed become contented and agreeable (only) in the presence of that other Image of nature.' Anyone with two ears capable of hearing should listen!"
When the Blessed One had said these things, he greeted them all. "Peace be with      you!" he said. "Acquire my peace within yourselves!
"Be on your guard so that no one deceives you by saying, 'Look over here!' or           'Look over there!' For the child of true Humanity exists within you. Follow it! Those who search for it will find it.  "Go then, preac[h] the good news about the Realm. [Do] not lay down any rule beyond what I determined for you, nor promulgate law like the lawgiver, or else you might be dominated by it." After he had said these things, he departed from them.

Peter said to Mary, "Sister, we know that the Savior loved you more than all other women. Tell us the words of the Savior that you remember, the things which you know that we don't because we haven't heard them."
Mary responded, "I will teach you about what is hidden from you." And she began to speak these words to them.  She said, "I saw the Lord in a vision and I said to him, 'Lord, I saw you today in a vision.'He answered me, 'How wonderful you are for not wavering at seeing me! For where the mind is, there is the treasure.'
I said to him, 'So now, Lord, does a person who sees a vision see it <with> the soul <or> with the spirit?' The Savior answered, 'A person does not see with the soul or with the spirit. 'Rather the mind, which exists between these two, sees the vision an[d] that is w[hat … ]'

I hope you enjoy this partial translation I DID!! GO ladies!

We've come a long way since we dragged women by the hair to our cave but still have a long way to go. I'm a Catholic but pretty much look at the person. At one time I had a female CO in the Navy, a female supervisor and a female manager and never felt intimidated by it. They each earned their rank. I believe the first one at the Tomb of Jesus was Mary Magdalene and that was by design. In spite of all this, the age of chivalry was still my favorite in world history.

Well Debbie as you probably know Deborah means 'honey bee' in Hebrew, but based on what I know of you here at PS I would say you have a couple (at least)of the the qualities of Deborah as she is described in Judges in the Bible(see my note below).Rgds Brian

Yes Brian I knew of my name sake, Jewish families name their child for a loved one who has passed and very often from the names of people in the Bible, I have often wondered if this choice affected my personality?

Some may say that I'm a little biased to the attributes of the fair sex ,being married, with two daughters, and five of my grandchildren being female. But maybe I've learnt to appreciate their qualities from close at hand compared to others of my gender.Rgds Brian

And of course Debbie there is your namesake Deborah a 'judge' of Israel (way before Saul, David & Solomon) and before they mistakenly clamoured for a king. This lady was both a spiritual and military leader possibly a singer/ song writer as well (see Judges 5). Quite a 'gal'.Rgds Brian
