Forgiveness - Audrey Haick's Blog

     Let me begin by saying that I enjoy being a part of PoetrySoup.  I have been around for last five or six years, writing, reading, meeting and interacting with talented poets from around the world. There is much I have learned! .

        I wrote my first poem between the ages of five - six, after a field trip to a beach on the Atlantic coast on a most gorgeous sunny day. My Papa was so proud of me, he hung it in the living room! lol  Somewhere along the way, my poem was lost as are mamy others written in between relocating from one country to another. It was my 8th grade teacher who first advised me to keep writing.  Always a dreamer, my Papa complained that I was absent-minded and I didn't mind because it was true as there was so much to see and do everywhere else than where I was at any moment. Ah, but life has a way of making you conform to its tons of mundane tasks; however that dreamer still lives, today! 

        Along with poetry, I have accomplished one of my dreams with regards to writing.  I published a book, "Fiona's Journey" in 2004-my first attempt. It's nothing to brag about, yet it was an enjoyable experience and I'm glad I was given that chance to share my feelings and beliefs with others.  It was written for children but anyone would enjoy.  Since then I've embarked on a novel which is taking forever. However, I will persevere as the story means very much to me.

        I live on the beautiful state of Maryland on the east coast with my family.  I have an extraordinary child who I'm extremely grateful for.  We share a life that's enriching with music, people, our love for each other and nature. We both love the ocean and visit at every opportunity that comes up.

        I'm easy going and friendly; loving people just comes naturally. And I still have faith that one day, man will come to see that we have no choice but to respect and love each other or none of us will survive..not even the strongest in any sense. In my free time, I enjoy entertaining, basketball (watching- lol I'm only 5' 3"), cooking, movies, sewing and travelling.

The coming of the season of Advent brings the opportunity to examine the past year; my relationship with others.  For example, I ask myself, have I caused injury to anyone?  Perhaps a friend, or another poet, it doesn't matter… whether with intent or not, through comments I may have left on a poem in which someone expressed their pain or whatever; did I just leave a comment which seemed flippant and insincere? I can not swear that I have not done so. Being human and knowing my flaws- impatience, emotional immaturity at times, I like to take this time to ask forgiveness, sincerely.  Sometimes our intentions are good but we miss the mark due to either oversight, not fully understanding the poem or sometimes just being pressed for time.  However, if I’ve offended anyone, please accept my apology and believe that it was not my intent.

         As I clean house... literally too! (something which I never enjoy! I only do it because I have to, really)!  I’m dumping all the emotional baggage I’ve carried these past months, in the trash where they belong as they do nothing but weigh me down and "cramp my style". I’ve decided that old scars always interrupt the perfect flow in life, anyway, so why bring them along.

     As this blog relates to “Forgiveness”, I’m sponsoring a new contest a.s.a.p.  I know that everyone is busy but would appreciate it you'd participate, if you feel up to it and can fit it somewhere in your schedule.

Hi Audrey. Your blog made me sit back and think. After weeks of buying , making sure that we had everything for Christmas I was reminded of what this Holy time is really about. a very apt endeavor as the year ends, audrey...i will support you in this contest; hopefully, it won't be a dark piece but i am one that somehow thinks out of the creative box... why is saying " i'm so sorry; please forgive so hard to do for many?? ( that includes me, sometimes)...we'll see how mine goes! blessings and more, audrey :)

Audrey, sounds like you have come up with a great theme for the season. This is a very fitting blog as well! Blessings to you too. As for hurting people by accident, I imagine I do it sometimes because honestly, I sometimes have no idea what I am reading. But I just feel like I need to comment to almost every poem I read, so if I ever say a comment that makes someone feel bad, it simply means I did not understand what they were talking about. Hopefully people are mature enough to realize that. I've had a few poems of my own not being understood by some people, and I just chalk it up to miscommuication! LUv, Andrea

A very wholesome and spiritually healthy blog Audrey. There is wisdom in forgivingness, for one does not receive it without first giving it. I learn from ever lesson of life, but I never hold unforgivingness in my heart for any person. For if we can't love our brothers whom we can see, how can we claim to love God whom we haven't seen! Not one of us is free from needing forgiveness on some level. This was a very thoughtful blog, and theme for a contest...and each of us I'm sure has something we could have done better, kinder, or with more caring. A great way to express, and perhaps even heal, by writing down the experience in poetry. A lovely idea, Audrey.
