The Sentinel

On the front line stands a man
set
to give last breath

He walks in death’s dark shadow
brave
the sentinel

a keen watchman
fulfills solemn oath
who watches out for him?

Having served my country, this poem hits home for me. For I have definitely walked in death's shadow. Not that an answer to the question is needed, but from my perspective, the sentries look out for each other, creating a bond that last a lifetime. Brothers. This is a great poem, I love it. Doug

... and who watches the WATCHER'S watcher? It's a deadly cycle methinks... always someone is left unguarded. Very cool questionku... someday I will write one myself! And thanks for reading several of my poems yesterday... 'twas a delight to read them :)
