Bloggers PhotoHi it is time i introduced myself, I was born in Skipton Yorkshire, England, and still have a accent belonging to my birth place. in 1966 my wife Elaine and i and our two sons moved to New Zealand, where the boys were raised. then we  moved on to the city of Perth  in Western Australia.
After 45 years away we both decided to have a move back to the yorkshire dales where we were raised. leaving our children and grandchildren in what i consider the best places on the planet. (NZ-OZ)
Our reason for the move back to the uk was to be able to discover our back yard so to speak, and we have a desire to go to europe, especially scandinavia and germany.
I would like to say how much i'm enjoying my trip here on soup, and really loved the poems posted, my bigest problem being time, i always seem to be catching up, being able only to spend two to three days on here, even then with limited hours, so please forgive me if my comments seem later than most.  I also love football (soccer) Newcastle United in England being my team, then music, all kinds but mainly Rock 'n' Roll, i'm  a avid record collector, especially old vinyl LP's of the Fifties. my favourite poet is W. H Davies, along with a few on soup here, I do not get a lot of time to read these days, but my favourite Author is Dennis Wheatley, also i love  the the Bronte Sisters, being raised only 10 miles from Haworth, one gets a real feel for their literature, when one visits the area.   Harry

Having spent a little time on new poems being posted here on soup, recently i noticed the same name, posting prolifically, so i did a little check, and this poet as posted nearly 5000 poems in 17 months, i wonder if anyone can beat that.

I have occasionally read his poems but I never find anything in them, so quit reading.

I'm about your blog title. Why does everyone paint the word "criticism" in a negative light?

I think maybe he caught wind that I wanted to break his record(I was only kidding of course), because today he has posted even more poems than usual....

One last thing. I have been trying to post only new poems of mine and that's why I find the contests so challenging. I have probably a thousand poems that are not even here at Soup, but I just don't see the need to post several a day. Personally, I would like to see Soup make a limit on it. I noticed one time when I posted three in one day, the first one hardly ever got read because everyone focused on the last one I had posted. Why post if one is not going to be read? Just my philosophy!

I wonder why people only read the top poem. This annoys me.
Date: 9/10/2012 5:55:00 AM
Harry, the solution for everyone is very easy. Simply DO NOT READ "NEw Poems -All" I NEVER go to that list. There are too many piggy poets there. I always see "NEW POEMS-BY POETS" it allows us to see only one poet on the list at a time. In other words, if I post ten poems (not that I ever would) only one of them will appear on that list. This is the only worthwhile list to visit here at Soup. Forget the other one, guys. I figured this out after my first month here at Soup. As for this poet, I don't know who it is. I can't imagine the poems would be "polished" although he could be posting stuff he wrote since childhood.

Would it be realistic to ask admin. to limit postings per day? I think 2 or 3 per day would be fair to all. Just saying..

I made a comment to this one poet politely mentioning he was knocking other poems off the list before they could be read and that perhaps he might get more comments and more readers if he posted less poems...LOL...do you think he listened? I don't think he cares what anyone else thinks...:))

Oh, I think his poetry is absolutely brilliant! Yes, he is onto something quite experimental. Not even sure wot it is? The vast majority of soupers will never enter the same league as him....that's just how good he is.

How do you know he is brilliant if you don't know what his.poems are about?

My first poem will be called: PIG -- It is a kingdom of restaurants. / I enter one; the maitre de resembles my father. / He doesn't stop speaking french / as he leads me to a table of strangers. / They think I don't know wot fork to use / to eat my salad with. / But I do know, so they shut-up, / continue stuffing their piggish faces. / Not wanting to partake in their main course / I get up and leave, / passing by a window that reminds me of my brother / who is now named Cain. / Thankfully I am not named Abel. / From this distance, I still hear their piggish smacking / echo off the brownstone / of this Kingdom of whores and restaurants. / I am bolstered to instead eat from the apple tree, / call it even.

I think that I might be inspired to beat this record!? 5000 poems in 17 months = 9.8 poems every single day. Now, this is quantity over quality obviously. Do I go with a similar format? Avg words per poem = 34.7, avg lines per poem = 8.8, avg word length = 4 letters. Ok, to beat this record, my poems aren't going to make much sense....I am downgrading; just for this record though.

Harry, I hope nobody ever beats that unofficial soup record. I agree with Mandy's comment concerning uber-posters. I could very well be missing-out on reading some good poems, but if someone uber-posts, I simply skip over their poems(and I fully understand how there are some instances of people moving their poems from somewhere else, and also some people wanting to mass-post their poems because they think they are going to die and want to share their poems). I've wanted to engage with said poet as politely as possible and suggest to him to maybe consider writing ONE single poem out of the 5000, using a new format/formula. You know, try something new for the sake of personal evolution.

I have no objection to the amount posted by any poet but I do object to them banging about twenty out in one go as it pushes some really well written poems off the list before we get the chance to see them, Two poets the other week posted thirty six poems between them on one day and I never bothered to read one because of it , I wish they would be more considerate and space them more xx
