Lest We Forget

I want to forget the headlines Or stated by the news team Another soldier shot dead Makes me want to scream The family must  be distraught With it blasted  on the news Do the news editors ever give a thought Of how this is shattering to the nerves I am not saying that we shouldn't know But not in such a dramatic way As though the government worries About a single life so far away The bodies are flown home People line the streets in respect Everytime a plane has landed The people of Wootten Bassett* I would like to forget these scenes But if I let it happen I wouldn't be any better  Than our government  who allows  these girls and boys To return home in a coffin * Wootten Bassett. Is the small town and the route that the cars take from the plane to wherever they are heading. Each and every coffin is given this respect no matter what time of day or night it arrives.

Belated congrats on this gripping and heart-wrenching poem, Seren...I think the media is only worried about ratings...as a Vietnam vet I can identify...another useless and unwinnable war. Many young men bravely gave their lives in that war (including one of my best friends) and for what?...We ended up pulling out and the VC ended up taking over anyway! - Tim

Oh wow, Seren,, you do not need a bio,,, your words your sentiment, your truth heaven sent..... you say everything about the modern world, a world so foreign to me..... just a footnote,,, every night on yorkshie tv news,, we hear about jimmy Savile, but not just words... but saturated videos of him every single night brought in to our living rooms.....how one finds fame today is unbelievable.. this is a very special poem Seren,,,to my fav...

Jimmy Saville the perv, i wish he was still alive. Close people who say they didnt know, to me is remarkable. Those babies must be left to grow up. With colour in their lives.

Harry as you might have gathered i detest the wars our lads are fighting and dying for, its not our call, so why are we there. Looks like you are on my wavelength on this... Hehe Seren on a soapbox is quite strange, but if necessary I would be there.thanks for commenting Harry, i do appreciate it......Seren.
