I just encountered a huge problem. Has anyone noticed people stealing poems? I am very upset right now about a certain "someone" who is new since October who just posted my poem for a contest. I confonted that person and hmmm...all of a sudden it was deleted from their page???!!?? Well, I'll tell you...I have been very distant since last September and I am not happy with this! PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Laura, in reading this blog I see the thief has flown off, that's a good thing as we do not need such people on this site, our poems are precious to many of us, sure there are terrible things going on in the world but theft is never trivial , but I understand how you feel, I would feel exactly the same~

Laura I just went to see if any of mine had been stolen by him and his name and site are gone. I Know when I came back to soup, I went through my poems and many had my name and/or the date removed. Mine are copyrighted prior to post... I replaced my name and looked up my originals I Keep...I have had several of my paintings stolen From display, so I understand your sentiments. What is the solution? I don't know. It's an ongoing Battle that should not be. Hang in there...evil will Rue the day in time. Big Hugggs. Deb

thank you Deb, I appreciate your kind words. I agree with you. I will say to me this was a big deal. Just how I feel. Maybe to others it's not a big deal, but to me it sure is! they are MINE. and it's sad that the world has to steal to prove a point or "wind" someone up as I was told. I apologize if I got super upset, but I have rights too. NO one should be stolen from. And then mocked and told to chill out like it's no biggie. To me, it is, and that's all that matters. It's terrible to have paintings stolen from you. There is no protection anymore. These people need help. It's sad really. I feel violated, and if that makes me dramatic, so be it. thank you Deb for your kindness and support! :)-luloo

Also... I am checking through my Poems, especially older ones, finding after spending 4+ hours previously on replacing my name/dates/and titles, I am having to do it AGAIN!! This is becoming frustrating and I am considering leaving soup again...this time with my poetry... Obviously some entitlement minded people have no respect for legal issues... Well I do. And if my poetry can't be protected I have to seek it's protection elsewhere... plagiarism is serious business when legal avenues are pursued. I hope The Soup are making efforts to eliminate this issue.

Sorry to hear about that he's gone and that the issue is at least partially resolved. Keep writing! On a personal note, this thread introduced me to the Soup's plagiarism checker and led to an interesting meander, although in all cases source was attributed.

well, the golden is gone guys...I still haven't heard back from TPS, so I'm not sure if it was them or he got scared off by all of you nice people :) THANK YOU to all of you for all your kindness and support. It means so much to me. I will pay the kindness forward in my life. :) Looking back and reading his poems, I kinda got the feeling he was mocking some of my poems the whole time? I don't know. My hubby said the same thing. I have a few poems about eagles and hawks, and even one poem about a golden eagle as a tribute to my sister. SO, I'm not sure if there's a correlation or not...anyways, be blessed PS and have a great day...thank you very much once again :)-luloo

Laura, I am so sorry this is happening to you...and on our Poetry Soup site! I am very disappointed about how unhelpful Team PS is on this matter. I found one of my poems stolen and posted on Hello Poetry, June 5, 2015. I reported it to TPS and received no help at all except to contact the head of that site (Hello Poetry) which I did three times with no answer back from him. I even contacted the poet himself. My poem is still there under the thief's name. Perhaps you will fare better since the plagiarism was done on this site. Best wishes! Hugs, Sandra

I found one of mine on 'all poetry' but they were very good when I contacted the site and told them when it was written and that it was copyrighted on PS - it was very swiftly removed. Such a shame people stoop so low and steal the work of another:-( hugs jan xx

Sorry you have to deal with this, Laura. you have to report to Soup, that is all I can say. I sincerely hope they will listen to you and not drag their feet. There needs to be a rule that people who do this will get kicked off and all their poems with them. A man was doing this several years ago and a number of us went to Soup and got him kicked off. Power in numbers. Let's hope Soup is seeing all this.

Thanks Connie. In that case, Soup did eventually stop the thief, but they did not ban her . In my opinion, she was caught red-handed , with no doubt as to her guilt- thus should have been banned. It is what is I suppose..

How terrible Robert and Laura. I had someone steal my Constanza Poetry form. I told them to remove their remarks saying my they invented the form or I would take legal action and they removed it immediately. You have to Google your work to keep up on poetry plagiarist. I'VE HAD IT HAPPEN TO ME HERE, MORE THAN ONCE, IN THE PAST. TOOK ME BACK THEN, ABOUT SIX WEEKS TO GET THE ISSUE RESOLVED WHEN IT WAS MY HELL-HOUND POEM STOLEN AND POSTED AS THEIR OWN, BY A MEMBER HERE.. SHE STAYED AFTER THAT, NOT SURE IF SHE IS STILL HERE.

I changed part of my poem from Golden Eagle to Bald Eagle on purpose- I don't want that name anywhere near my poem. The thing is, I saw his name on my contest winner list and thought huh, those birds are beautiful, I should write a poem about one. Then he copies it. Still, no right to steal my poems...especially "Find Me at 6" poem.

There is a plagiarism checker right here on the soup in the left hand column at the bottom. I have never used it but Tim told me about plagiarism.org. It's simple to use. What you do once you find out is entirely up to you. If it is a big business, get an attorney!

OMG! HE stole "Find Me At 6" too! from Nette's contest. Totally different name tho. That was very special to me. I contacted admin right away. His name is Goldeneagle Eyes. Sorry to be so rude but I have to warn everyone about this. I know it's a man because some poems talk about being a man. Unless he's a poser lol People are so crazy. I don't appreciate that at all. It hurts my feelings...But I'll get over it. I'm just so tired..and don't need this.

Really sad, that someone has to steal another's words. At least he had enough sense to steal from a great poet. I know that doesn't make you feel better. It is a reality we all have to deal with. I check my poems from time to time on plagiarism.org and am always amazed. I have found some of my poems used in businesses. It's just a fact. People steal!
