When I first learned to read it was a thrill when I learned enough to read an entire poem by myself. Of course, Halfway Down by AA Milne was a favorite and still is.
Halfway down the stairs
is a stair
where i sit.
there isn't any
other stair
quite like
it.
i'm not at the bottom,
i'm not at the top;
so this is the stair
where
I always
stop.
Halfway up the stairs
Isn't up
And it isn't down.
It isn't in the nursery,
It isn't in town.
And all sorts of funny thoughts
Run round my head.
It isn't really
Anywhere!
It's somewhere else
Instead!
Simple poetry is what I write most often. I prefer short forms such as the Naani which is one of Indian's most popular poetic forms. It consists of 4 lines, the total lines consist of 20 to 25 syllables. The poem is not confined to a particular subject. The following poem is a Naani I wrote recently:
THE FATES
The three Sisters
Are weaving ~
Caring not for your life;
Caring only for Their pattern.
In mythology The Fates are three sisters,. Their names are Clotho (Spinner), Lachesis (Allotter), and Atropos (Inflexible). Clotho spun the “thread” of human fate, Lachesis dispensed it, and Atropos cut the thread (thus determining the individual's moment of death).
