Indian short-tailed cricket
~Charles J. Sharp / Wikimedia Commons
It's not a secret sonic weapon deployed by a hostile geopolitical power, it's not a mass psychogenic illness. Its something much more mundane, says the electrical and computer engineering professor: "It's only crickets; the mating call of the short-tailed West Indies cricket, to be specific, (of course it is), with a chirp that’s extremely annoying to the point it can cause harm to humans." So, if the cricket sounds cause headaches, ringing ears, fatigue, and brain damage, just calm down and don't be hysterical about it.

This is a very nice satirical poem. I liked the image of the cricket, perhaps because he is so small. This poem is awesome and quite rationale at the same time.

Thank you. It is in the news again. Either it was lied about last year or it is being lied about now. Why?

How creative your poem is. I love the humor and the calm resolve at the end. A single cricket or two doesn't bother me. A symphony of them keeps me awake at night. I've learned to tune it out. Delightful poem. Faving, Sara
