America the Broken

Shoplifters allowed to just walk out of stores,
And suddenly it doesn’t feel like home anymore.
Racism spikes as politicians fight,
And still the law does nothing.
And still I sit wanting to do something,
But I am a nobody, a nothing.
All I am is just a fourteen year old with a dream,
For the air to be clear and the ocean clean.
Wishing people would get along
And society could move on.
But instead I sit, writing a free verse
About American the broken, and possibly cursed.

Thanks for sharing this. Welcome to PS. Meanwhile, I welcome you with the love of God. According to John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." God bless you.

Your views are shared by many MacKenzie and they are important. Your poem is on point. It is a shame when the memory of what used to be brings more comfort than hope for a better future but I will never relinquish hope!

There is hope. Progress has been made on so many fronts but that won’t get you grant money or sell newspaper. I guess if they can make us feel helpless and hopeless we will be easier to control. Truth is Light dispels darkness and good wins in the end! God bless!

The media is to blame. When I was your age the media was by and large just reporting the news and exposing the truth. Now it is ideologically driven propaganda and opinion masquerading as news. Good luck with your writings.

The thoughts expressed in your poem are thoughts many of us have. Well done. Keep writing!
