Winter's Slumber
swallowed up
by the darkness
this is a ride, this is a ride
permitted passenger
solitary journey, solitude driven
a knowing plunge to despair. down
and looping existence
relinquished control
tethered somehow. still
held in place
by gravity's hand. twists
carve me up. turns
leave me gasping
registering every
mistake ever made. as loop the loop
the loop. traction shunts
forward motion. screams
round corners. may be
my own. winter moves
onward. seasons don't last
light sensed. before
the gloom disappears
let me recall endured fear
as emerge seasoned
not enclosed
by walls. or secured
in place. I will no longer
follow a track. spat out
on the other side
winter is done
