Husband Material

When you meet the right man, you will know he's the one..
You know you will marry him, before you're all done.

Is it the spark in his eye, or simply the way that he walks?
Is it the way he looks at you, during the long evening talks?

The way he talks to his mother, tells you all you need to know.
If he is respectful and loving, he will also treat you so.

Perhaps

Perhaps, I were your wife,
Would you have made me a paper tiger,
one that looks fierce but cannot bite?

Perhaps, I were your husband,
Would you have used feminism to emasculate me,
turning me into a yo-yo at your whim?

Perhaps, I were your friend,
Would you have made me a clown,
one who makes you laugh but lives in sorrow?

Perhaps, I were your servant,
Would you have made me a sea squirt,
eating his own brain just to serve you?

Perhaps, I were your parent,
Would you have made me a burden,
one who bends his back to feed your pride?

Perhaps, I were your child,
Would you have made me subservient to your greed,
one who loses his future to your ego?

Perhaps, I weren’t yet born,
Would you have been proud to weave me in your DNA,
one you breathe life into to erase your doubts?

Perhaps, this were only a poem,
Would you have thought of it a classic,
one that would stand the firm test of time?

Premium Member From The Beginning

Your arms make me feel safe from that first glance.
Your soul, my safe haven.
You had me at hello.
Those true colors peeking through your walls: strength, love, and devotion.
You are my yin to my yang.
You ground me.

We’ve pushed through, standing our ground through sickness and trial, yet we still hold the line for our family we’ve created.

As years pass and looks fade, I will still see the soul I fell in love with from day one.

Happy Anniversary, my love.

Premium Member I See Fire

I see fire in your eyes
 when you look at me.
 I cannot resist your flame
 You light up my heart.

 Embraced in burning passion
 making love with you
 through blazing red hot desire
 my flame will erupt.

Premium Member She Knows Me

Yes, she knows me, she’s known me from the start
Soulmates throughout eternity, she knows me in her heart

She knows the words my heart would say
And knows the thoughts I think each day

She sees my smile and knows its cause
And feels my love without a pause

She knows the joy that we feel
When once again we’ve topped a hill

And all the love when we embrace
When we have finished a 5K race

She knows I love her for her mind
Unique, intelligent, the creative kind

I promised a life of love and adventure
But that first kiss of her hand was the heart-melding clincher

Premium Member No Other Can

Gently hold my soul, my dearest man
You love me like no other can.

-the lover in you-

i remember the day love was found,
you and i were all the world had to offer-
when two hearts were love bound,
both listening to the thumping sound
of hearts given to each other-
no-
i’ll never find another lover-
        like you.

i thought of our youthful desire,
and how you touched my soft scars
under moonlit teenage stars-
now these lines on my face still yearn
for those gentle hands of fire,
melting into my soul, I feel it burn,
yet they still touch with ease,
i’m begging you, never stop--- p l e a s e...

i craved a garden,
you planted a seed-
a heart that was hardened,
still a heart in need.

forever was granted so long ago,
and you vowed to never let me go.

i needed you then,
i need you now, still-
    for i’ll always need….
                 the lover in you.

When Tom Understood Jerry

I hated him,
fought with him,
threw words sharp enough to cut.

I called him a psycho,
as if he was
and he—
he just nodded,
as if guilt was his to bear.

He took my beatings,
my storms,
without a single strike back.

And when I broke,
when tears came like floodwater,
he didn’t turn away.
He pulled me close,
patted my hair,
and whispered,

“It’s okay… I will be with you.”

That was the moment,
like Tom understanding Jerry,
we stopped being enemies—
and became something more.

Premium Member my best friend Joe

my best friend knows my stories, has my back, laughs with me
He and I share two dogs, they are our babies, Maxie and Maddy
We are silly enough to call ourselves their mommy and daddy
Been together for fifty-seven years, my best friend and me

My best friend misses me when I am gone, which is a rarity.
We are evenly matched in wit and wisdom, in complete parity.
My friend and I both have hazel eyes and dark hair, but I dye mine.
We take turns napping now, because babies want one up all the time.

There are so many reasons that I love my best friend, impossible to choose.
He knows me better than anyone else; can find anything I misplace or lose.
Knows what foods to buy, so he does the grocery shopping.
He also does the laundry, this man is a dynamo who is forever hopping.

We can finish each other’s sentences,
so claim we are redundant all the time.
I guess the best thing about my best friend
is that since 1968 he has been mine.

Years of Horror

I can't help but wonder if we could even fix it anymore.

I don't know if I could ever forget crying there on the floor.

And I can't help but feel that all our future has in store,

Is years, and years, and years of horror.

Premium Member Nurturing Love

To truly win a woman's heart
You must earn her love as well
Not just the once do it everyday
It is a must her love will fail

That special lady in your life
You need to spoil her every day
Not with gifts or material things
You spoil her in a different way

Do so with love and affection
Or that hug when she's in need
Show her how much she means
That's how you nurture loves seed

If you care for that seed properly
It will grow up steady and strong
But if you forget to care for it
Then her love will not be long

Oh silly

Oh silly
You don't need to be an individual
I'm your man

Oh silly
You don't need to want me too
I'm your man

Oh silly
You don't need to think for yourself
I'm your man

Oh silly
You don't need your own personality
I'm your man

Oh silly
You don't get to speak for yourself
I'm your man

Oh silly
You don't get to have an opinion
I'm your man

Oh silly
You don't get to drive a car
I'm your man

Oh silly
You don't get to feel respected
I'm your man

Oh silly
You won't get to know what it feels like to be loved
I'm your man

Oh silly
You don't get to run away from me now
You let me be your man.

Premium Member Summer Night Without Your Spouse

When the silver moon tangoes out, with a lyrical hum,
And my heart beats like the gentlest drum.

Then, does my warm breathing hearspeed,
Oh, it is then, you, just you, I so lovingly need!

Come here, oh so close, bright, sweetheart of mine,
Crystal Anniversary glasses of chilled, Chardonnay wine.

It is then..that with moonlit tears do I awaken,
The sad realization, by God, was ‘twas years ago you were taken!

Premium Member No Sadness Or Tears

You said you wanted out
Of this marriage we are in
You were packing your things
And I’d never see you again

I grabbed a beer and watched
As I sat in my reclining chair
It did bother me you were leaving
The truth is I no longer care

With all your arms could carry
You loaded what belong to you
You gave me your key then ring
Saying we’re over and through

As I drank the last of my beer
I watched you walk out the door
There was no sadness or tears
Because I didn’t love you anymore
