What Matters Now
Incorrigible slights hold no place here
I am my own wind, stars, and moon
Be done with your squalid regrets
Hear it now, the angels last tune.
Steady to slumber and hold my hand
No thought is welcome in final death
The time has come to depart this land
Hold steadfast in parting breath
Dry lungs weaken under fallowed earth
Whisper now this subtle conceit
The clock tower chimes once more
Cover the tracks of bygone deceit
None of it matters now, not to me my love
One last grasp to fight the night's call
Say goodnight and lay your demons
Surrender now, this mortal thrall.
