Waterside Nocturn

Inspired by Waterside Nocturn by Fred Uhlman. An oil painting on canvas Cruel winds freeze boats in tilting pose Now the storm has passed Calm moonlit inspection starts Men step on sheets of ice The lunar landscape depicted In lumpy yellowish paint With shadows cast In all the right places To show me mountain ranges And tiller tips Scratchy black sky, flecked and mottled Seems so carelessly achieved To imbue beauty of confidence No fires burn to smoke up the view It's still cold, but this night Is enveloped in the moon's magic But those are not my boats And I'm not on inspection duty
