Virtuality

Virtuality – by Luciana Fisher What can I caption that you have not seen or heard? In the era we are the herd Followed, unfollowed, and blurred. Swiping unsure of who we are or were. Where a tick that is blue Only turns us blue With envy and sorrow While our mental health sees no tomorrow For instant grams of falsehoods and scams Where we wear a filter but have no filter. Where hate only grows, and love seldom shows—and still, In an instant reel we waste yet another minute. To conceal our pain, we swipe yet again While we go insane For likes often filled with disdain! And yet we swipe yet again Left and right, With no end in sight But a voice inside says — “set the phonies aside” And stand beside, Your best friend, Pride; And unfriend the “friend” That knows your name But not your pain Online For a matter of gain Sharing endlessly in vain For a fleeting claim To fame. Set the device aside Reconnect with your pride. If you are in it for the ride Self-esteem is the prize.

And yet if I set the device aside, I would not have connected with your thoughts this morning. Perhaps people just need to use their devices more wisely. I am enjoying reading your thoughts, Luciana. John

Thank you, John. I am glad you enjoyed it. I think technology is great, but I do think mainstream social media has created a massive divide.
