Urgency
Urgency
By Luciana Fisher
I write with an urgency
unknown to man
Insignificant as I am
I write for every woman, man, and child never able to carry a pen,
With the soul purpose
Of righting all the wrongs
That left them without a chance to leave in ink a mark of their own.
With hope
I write to inspire,
Taking pleasure in every consonant and vowel
Binding one to the next in a marriage
Forming sounds
A pleasure they have not known.
To defy time I’ll leave behind in ink a mark of my own.
A protest!
A manifesto of a kind
Give every woman, man, and child a pen, I demand!
Let them think and write a story of their own!
Let none go unknown.
I write with urgency
Good or bad
I write with urgency
Letting fleets of words meet
With the complete notion that time is limited.
So when I go,
I leave behind in ink, not a life,
but a collection of thoughts worth being known.
Give every woman, man and child a pen,
I demand!
Let them write a poem of their own.
And God, please,
Let no writing go unknown.
