Unseen Storm

I should have seen it coming when the sky got dark, A shadow creeping, stealing every spark. The air grew heavy, silent, and too still, A whispered warning on a lonely hill. I missed the signs, the fading of the light, Too lost in moments, beautiful and bright. The distant thunder, soft at first, then loud, A tear unspoken, hidden in a cloud. Perhaps my heart, so trusting and so deep, Was blind to secrets that the heavens keep. Believing only in the sun's warm gaze, Unknowing of the storm in coming days. Now darkness settles, vast and deep and cold, A harvest of the sorrow I must hold. And in this quiet, born of fading gleam, I trace the echoes of a broken dream. ©bfa060125
