To My Solemate --

A Whale of a Tale "There yet are plenty of 'soulmates' in the sea -- in all seven seas, in fact." -- a non-fishy fish fact for the romantic rare (as well as raw) * * * Although I reeled in you from out the blue, I could have hooked some other solemate true; I might have rowed my dinghy farther out, And caught a tuna, tripletail, or trout; Inside a trap upon the ocean floor, A lobster large I could have snared offshore; Or on the daily turning of the tide, A crab I might have netted, had I tried; A shark I could have roasted, broiled, or baked, Or still an eel my hunger might have slaked; While had a soured herring made me ill, The sea has herrings of a different gill; Yet you but one choice had from which to pick -- There being solely one great Moby-Dick. * * * a dedication of Respect for a Truth beyond all Rational doubt though it stink like a fish a revolving helios rhyme menippean satire on "spiritual" unions -- yet all wet may, 2023 -- finding one's sole "soulmate" still like shooting fish in a barrel
