What are memories? Echoes from another time. Vistas to the past. Captured memories Faces staring back at me From scrapbook pages. Memories connect Who I was to who I am Without them I’m lost. Do memories die? No brain keeping them alive? Perhaps not say I. Maybe vibrations Sight unseen to naked eyes Echoes across time.

Truly, memories hold the essence of self - sometimes filtered through different gauzes, joyful, melancholic. Thank you for a posting that invites self reflection. Be well. Brian

Dear Sara, your creative string of senryu capture the importance of memories that highlight and commemorate events and special people in one's life. Indeed, without them we'd be lost. Each senryu is beautifully expressed, but I especially admire your last senryu for a grand finale to a splendid introspective piece. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Hi Susan--thanks for stopping by and reading my senryu collection. You 'get' me and I appreciate you. The last senyru came from seemingly nowhere. I figure I was just the conduit being led by something higher. Glad you enjoyed it. Your comments made my day. Sara

thank you, Joanna, for reading my poetic creation. I, too, thought 'vistas...' was the ideal way of explaining memories. ...just came to me...I suppose that's what creativity is. Enjoy your weekend, Sara Etgen-Baker

Thank you, Andrea, for reading my little bit of rambling about memories. I have tons of scrapbooks. When I look through them I feel as if the faces from my past are reaching out to me...strange feeling sometimes. Stay strong, Sara Etgen-Baker

Lovely theme Sara. Memories are special moments we have shared with those special people in our lives who we miss Dearly. We hang on to them because they define us, who we are, where we came from, who shaped us, and who we love. I am glad I stopped by in reading your wonderful Poetry on memories I was able to reflect on my memories and was reminded by you. Sometimes we forget to go into the archives of our cherished memories because we are in the now busy, working etc. Thanks for sharing...

Thanks, Michael, for your insightful comment about memories. You're right. They define us, even the unpleasant ones. Retrieving them (even if painful) are enlightening. I, too, sometimes stay too busy to delve into the archives. Doing so is refreshing. I'm glad my poem gave you pause to reflect upon some of yours. Have a pleasant Friday, blessings, Sara Etgen-Baker

Love the nuances here Sara … especially Sight unseen to naked eyes Echoes across time . The echo is a perfect way to describe it . Like a stone in a pond the ripples grow and the echoes are heard vibrating in our consciousness as memories are uncovered bit by bit ! Hugs, Susan :)

Creative lines penned in this one. Sometimes I, also, wonder about memories and there are people are studying them and trying to make computer like machines that can store memories or recall memories like humans. Weird things people do with their time. Thanks for sharing this one with us. Sara

Thanks, Sara, for reading my rambling thoughts about memories....glad to know other people also wonder about where they come from and where they go after we pass...yes, that is a bit odd to have a machine store or recall memories. I'll have to give that some more thought. Again, thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts. Happy Saturday, Sara Etgen-Baker

The manner in which you assembled this assortment of Senyrus is quite appealing. Your inquiries are truly introspective and stir one's contemplations. Regrettably, as we age, some of these ponderings may fade away; yet a melody or a fragrance can often rekindle them. Thanks for sharing your musings.

Interesting thoughts Sara, as we go through life we build up quite a collection of them. Sadly as we get older some of them fade but a song or a smell sometimes brings them to the surface again. Our brains are amazing though, often I've tried to remember a name and slept on it and maybe a couple of days later it comes to me Tom
