Listen to poem:
Notes: This poem is related to the performance, impermanent art "This Progress" by Tino Sehgal - a choreographed conversation in the Guggenheim Art Museum where the visitors walk up the spiral ramp talking with people of ascending ages prompted with the question "what is progress?" The piece had no physical form - just dialogue and movement - highlighting the fragility of human connection and knowledge transfer. The exchanges were never recorded, so only exist in memory. There were no actors involved, just real people. See poem on my page for a photo of the venue. (There is also an inadvertent but not inappropriate nod to "Antigonish" by William Hughes Mearns I realised after writing. I quite like the echo, so I kept it in.) I do not matter in the scheme but someone like me is required this may be everyone's journey someone will always be the most and the least just as significance is conjecture we all play the game of engagement ~ but does anyone matter once they move on? I was never there, so I never cried I never answered the question nor did I walk the ramp I saw no faces wasn't led by hand or gesture wasn't changed or indifferent I didn't come out the other side no spiral occurred, for me not on the day I wasn't there but ethereal moments happen whether designated or fated caught in haste or missed... when I've hesitated stop me on the stairs ask me a question take the briefest time to linger for a moment of connection to exist in memory tell me precisely, where are we? then and now absorbed somehow taken in absolved of sin gift me human connection name it art

A remarkable poem DD, original and cleverly works its way around the mind...deserving of the POTD honour. Like the close, draws quite a novel association. Take care,

I love reading about some of these art installations - some are pretty intense but this one is quite thoughtful. The idea of something from nothing or vice versa lingering is just mesmerising as a thought... I was surprised to get POTD and it's lovely it's been well received on the whole. It's a fairly niche poetic tangent. Thank you for stopping by, appreciated x

' gift me human connection, name it art. ' As poets, we certainly bring moments to life. Poetry is art in motion, indeed. Congratulations Dilly, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy

Dear DD, Oh how beautiful the spirit of Sehgal’s “This Progress”-fleeting, ungraspable, yet deeply human. The ache and wonder of moments that pass without record, yet still transform us. Connection is truly art, and memory is its canvas. After reading this several times DD, I feel impermanence is like a gift, not a loss. Congrats on this FAV! Spring Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

Thank you Jan :) POTD can present a poem in a surprise state of undress on occasion lol. I'm glad I grabbed a robe in time and wrestled the notes to the top of the poem at least to provide some context :) Thank you for the call out for the photo and audio and your kind encouragement :)

Thank you Danny - Sliding Doors was a great film! All the possibilities float about in the ether in some way, whether we are there or not - maybe! Fun concept for a poem at any rate. Thank you for your kind comment :)

I've added a few edits this morning, I find these conceptual art events so interesting to ponder :) it's wonderful to receive such an enthused comment and fave, thank you! These are about as niche as I could go, so I never expect comments - particularly with the homework in the notes as a potential precursor to reading. So thank you, I really appreciate you taking the time. If I coincidentally get chatting to a t shirt designer (always a possibility!) I'll be ready with my pitch :) thanks again :)
